Day 3 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 Tappan Zee Bridge

Beginning in 2014, Clark Machine was tapped for the Tappan Zee Bridge Construction/ Demolition project in West Chester, New York. This project was the largest transportation design-build project in US history at the time, ringing in at approximately $3.98 billion total. Clark Machine was asked to fabricate 6 rail cart super-structures that were used to launch pre-fabricated girder sections onto barges. The girders were then floated downstream to be lifted in place.

Along with these superstructures, Clark fabricated over 100 tractor trailer loads of temporary work platforms, girder splice cages, weldments, grillage, coffer dams, jacking stands, and various hardware packages from 2014- 2019.

Today’s feature:

Clark Machine is routinely asked to rebuild buckets, but in 2020, a customer tapped us to rebuild quite a few at once. After new pins, bushings, and lineboring, these buckets were back to brand new! Our customer uses these for various major construction projects up and down the east coast 🇺🇸🇺🇸

Every day this week, leading up to the 250th birthday of America, we will be showcasing some of our favorite projects. We are so proud to be a part of the fabric of this great country! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Clark Machine fabricated five (5) customer-designed transport ramps, complete with an apron that can be raised and lowered, safety railings, and gates. The ramps are used to make a smooth transition from road surface to the ferry deck.

Clark utilized resources in all service departments to complete the job here on site. Once built and galvanized, these ramps were delivered via Clark Machine’s trucks, in one piece, to a dock where our customer loaded them onto barge transport. They were then shipped to their final destination.

Clark Machine recently helped a customer get their excavator boom back up and running when the piece of equipment failed and time was of the essence.

We started with a full inspection of the failed component, followed by high-resolution 3D scanning using our Artec 3D Leo scanner. We then processed the scan data and used it to replicate the damaged section in Autodesk.

Once the design was complete, we moved into production:
• Processed the part in ProNest for efficient material utilization
• Precision cut the component on our Hypertherm Ventures XPR 300 plasma system
• Machined critical features on our horizontal mill
• Formed the part on our 1,000-ton Cincinnati Incorporated CNC press brake

After final inspection, the part was shipped back to the customer, ready to be welded into place and put back into service.

At Clark Machine, we pride ourselves in the ability to get your equipment back up and running quickly and correctly!
