Intentional relaxation, rejuvenation and reconnection đź’ś
We hosted our Wellness Retreat for Black Leaders last week and it was EVERYTHING!!!
From the beautiful location, to the services, the bonding, and just the break from the outside world, even for us it was a much needed retreat.
This event was a labor of love from many hands and hearts, but here are a few special thanks from the team:
To Dr. Gail Christopher for hosting us at the impeccable Ntianu Garden.
To our sponsors, Lorraine Advisory and CLLCTIVLY for supporting our vision.
To the amazing practioners from Talk2Me Nation and Brandi, CEO for healing our attendees and feeding back into their spirits.
To Ancestors' Dream Apothecary and Jovera Collective for bringing even more wellness into the space with the outdoor classroom activities and wellness after care at home.
And a special shout out to our attendees for making space for themselves, leaning into rest as a liberating practice and trusting us to provide a space for them to just be.
If you missed this one, don't worry we're already planning the next one. So stay tuned!
A warm welcome from Dr. Gail!
Talk2Me Nation kicking us off and grounding the day
These massages were everything from Brandi, CEO !
Rachel Joy Barrett-Dolcine had to make time for her word puzzles 🤣
Wellness to go

Clearly we believe in rest AND play!
As we are preparing for our wellness retreat this Friday, we stumbled across this throwback from a liberatory leadership training we facilitated with Living Classrooms a while back.
Having conversations around race, equity, and inclusionary practices can be tough and taxing. So we made sure to create spaces where attendees could go and rest. Clearly they loved it!
Rest and play doesn't have to be divorced from community work. We believe it should be an intentional part. You can't pour from an empty cup.
This Friday, 20 Black leaders will join us in choosing to intentionally rest and reconnect with themselves so that they can continue to feed into our communities and each other.
Be brave enough to choose rest and find time to play. You deserve it.
If you're looking for a restorative way to come back to yourself in a supportive, communal environment, we welcome you to join us for a Sound Bath Reset.
The Reset is an outdoor waterfront sound bath that will take place all summer.
đź—“The first session: This Sunday, June 28
📍Allen Pond Park in Bowie
đź’ś hosted and guided by Kendra Kouture Langley
The Reset experience is intended to help you release stress, reset your nervous system, and return to a grounded, centered state following the daily demands and overstimulation of everyday life.

We're in the middle of our second cohort for the New Roots Black Caucus (NRBC) and the participants are going through a process of reflection and unlearning.
What's the number one thing they have identified they need to unlearn? Perfectionism!
"Every task, even a simple email, carries unrelenting pressure where I risk being seen as incompetent".
"I push myself to perform at a high level even when I am tired or stretched thin".
"Perfectionism slows me down and sometimes keeps me from moving forward at all... it blocks my growth and sometimes I miss out on the joy in the journey".
These are the words, the reflections, of our Black leaders, leading in the C- suites, building small businesses, mentoring youth, and serving our communities who are showing up scared and pushing through exhaustion because the THINK they have to be perfect.
As we enter into the liberation stage of our program, we wanted to remind them, and you, that who you are is ENOUGH. Your value isn't in doing things perfectly, but existing authentically. As one participant put it:
"I am moving from seeking external validation to establishing internal authority- defining success by the integrity of my work and freedom of my spirit".
** The New Roots Black Caucus (NRBC) is a six-month leadership program
supporting leaders of color that identify as Black or African American, through guided learning for holistic well-being, culturally rooted principles, and liberatory leadership frameworks. Co-created and facilitated by Shalita O'Neale, Rachel Dolcine, and Kijaffa Hall, the program uniquely intertwines the wisdom of indigenous practices with contemporary healing modalities to foster an environment of healing, understanding, and growth.

We are continuing our list of ways to show love to yourself on a regular basis and none of them require tons of time, money, or equipment. Just you connecting with you.
