At Whitelock Community Farm, everything we do is rooted in one simple mission: to nourish our neighbors by providing fresh, healthy, and accessible produce at no cost to our community.

Our work is made possible through a community stewardship model, powered by the generosity of volunteers, partners, and neighbors who believe that everyone deserves access to fresh food. Together, we’ve cultivated more than a farm; we’ve grown a space for connection, wellness, and belonging.

As we continue to grow, so do the opportunities to deepen our impact. Your support helps us care for the land, expand our harvests, and ensure that fresh produce remains freely available to those who need it most.

Please consider making a donation today by visiting the link in our bio or our website. Every gift, no matter the size, helps us continue nourishing the Whitelock community.

Together, we can grow something extraordinary.

It’s been such a beautiful growing season, and we’re only halfway through the summer. While the heat has been intense, we’re incredibly grateful for the abundance this season has brought and for every community member who has volunteered, supported, and helped our farm thrive.

Every photo here was taken today, and we wanted to share a glimpse of the beauty growing right here in Reservoir Hill. 🌻🌿

Whether you’re looking to get your hands in the soil, meet your neighbors, or simply spend time in a space rooted in care and community, we’d love to have you join us.

Come experience the magic with us at an upcoming volunteer day. Together, we’re growing so much more than food. 💚

🌼 More Than Just a Pretty Flower 🌼

Did you know that the marigolds blooming throughout Whitelock Community Farm are doing so much more than adding beautiful color?

These vibrant flowers have long been valued as companions in the garden, helping attract beneficial pollinators while naturally deterring certain pests. But their story goes far beyond the garden bed.

For generations, marigolds have been honored across many Indigenous and African diasporic traditions:

🌿 Indigenous communities throughout the Americas have used marigolds in ceremonies, healing traditions, and as natural plant medicine, recognizing their connection to wellness, protection, and remembrance.

🧡 Marigolds have been used as natural dyes, bringing brilliant golden hues to textiles, baskets, and ceremonial items long before synthetic dyes existed.

✨ Across African and African American herbal traditions, marigolds have been appreciated for their soothing properties in teas, salves, and skin preparations, while also serving as a reminder that our ancestors found medicine growing all around them.

At Whitelock Community Farm, we believe that plants are medicine; not only for our bodies, but for our communities, our histories, and our connection to the earth.

If you’re curious to learn more, we encourage you to check out the incredible work of Plant Mama Alchemy. Her knowledge of herbs, flowers, and plant medicine is truly inspiring, and we’re incredibly grateful to have an herbalist as part of our Whitelock community.

Come join us for a volunteer day! Whether you’re planting, harvesting, or simply asking questions, there’s always something new to learn. We’d love to grow alongside you. 🌱💚

🌞🥬 It’s harvest season, and we want to celebrate with YOU!

Join us at Whitelock Community Farm this Wednesday, July 1, from 5–7 PM for an evening full of fresh veggies, community, music, and summer joy. 🌻✨

We’ll be harvesting beautiful leafy greens, making space for our next round of summer crops, and giving away as much fresh produce as we can because we believe everyone deserves access to healthy, nourishing food. 💚

Whether you’ve been gardening for years or have never touched a shovel, this is the perfect chance to get your hands in the soil, learn something new, meet amazing neighbors, and experience the magic of community farming. No experience needed—just bring a water bottle, wear clothes you don’t mind getting a little dirty, and come ready to have fun!

✨We’ll also be hosting our weekly CSA pickup this evening since the farm will be closed on the Fourth of July.✨

Let’s celebrate another beautiful harvest together. We can’t wait to see you at the farm! 🌱

lol A little late to the party, but Pride is worth celebrating every day. 🌈💚

Happy Pride Month from all of us at Whitelock Community Farm!

At Whitelock, we believe healthy communities grow the same way healthy gardens do; with diversity, care, and room for everyone to thrive.

Our farm is more than a place to grow food. It’s a space where neighbors connect, stories are shared, and everyone is welcome to show up as their authentic selves.

This Pride Month (and every month), we celebrate the joy, resilience, and contributions of LGBTQIA+ folks who make our communities stronger, kinder, and more vibrant.

Thank you for helping us cultivate a space rooted in belonging, equity, and love. Whether you’re volunteering, harvesting, learning, or simply stopping by, you belong here.

Happy Pride! 🌱🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️🩷❤️🧡💛💚🩵💙💜🤎🖤

🌱💚 For more than 15 years, Whitelock Community Farm in Reservoir Hill has been a beacon of food access, education, environmental stewardship, and community connection.

Under the leadership of Executive Director Jennifer West, the farm has grown into so much more than a green space; it’s a place where history, culture, and community come together. Through hands-on learning and land-based education, we honor the rich legacy of the African American experience while celebrating the many diverse identities, stories, and traditions that make our neighborhood vibrant and strong.

Whether you’re interested in gardening, learning new skills, giving back, or simply finding a place where you belong, there’s a place for you here.

🌻 We’re always looking for volunteers to help steward this beautiful community space. Volunteer opportunities are posted regularly on our website, and we’d love to welcome you to the farm.

Come grow with us. Come learn with us. Come be part of something special. 🌿✨

BIG NEWS FROM THE FARM 🌱📦✨

It’s been a long time coming, but today we officially welcomed our new shipping container to the farm! This is such a huge milestone for us and an exciting step toward expanding community access to food resources right here in Baltimore. 💚

This container will help us continue growing our impact with long term plans for:
🥬 Refrigerated food storage
🖥️ Administrative office space for our farm team
🌻 Expanded capacity to better serve our community

None of this would have been possible without the incredible support of the Baltimore Community Foundation and all of the generous partners and community members who helped make this vision real, including support for the landscaping and gravel foundation that made today’s delivery possible.

And honestly… we’re just getting started. 👀🎨

Thanks to funding from the Maryland State Arts Council Arts Grant, we’re already dreaming up plans to transform the container with a beautiful community mural.

We are so excited for what’s ahead and deeply grateful for everyone who continues to believe in this work. This is more than a shipping container. It’s another investment in community care, food access, creativity, and collective growth. 🌿

Stay tuned… because this is only the beginning. ✨
