I’m super excited to be co-leading this featured session with the GAEYC Equity Fellows at the Georgia Association for the Education of Young Children 2026 Annual Conference!

From Learning to Leadership: Voices of the GAEYC Equity Fellows brings together five Fellows from the GAEYC Equity Fellowship—a 10-session professional learning experience designed to move beyond simply talking about equity to examining how equity, identity, educator wellbeing, leadership, and systems show up in the everyday experiences of early childhood professionals.

One of the things I value most about this work is that professional development should not end when the training ends. The goal is to build the knowledge, confidence, relationships, and practical tools that allow early childhood professionals to lead change within their programs, organizations, and communities.

That is at the heart of the work of The Realia Institute.

Through our consulting practice, Realia partners with organizations, associations, early childhood systems, and community-based initiatives to design and deliver professional development, training, facilitation, and technical assistance that strengthens both the people doing the work and the systems surrounding them.

Our work can be customized to support organizations seeking to:

• Advance equity and belonging across early childhood systems and organizations
• Strengthen educator wellbeing, resilience, and workforce sustainability
• Develop emerging and experienced ECE leaders
• Create meaningful professional learning communities and fellowship experiences
• Strengthen family and community leadership and authentic engagement
• Facilitate conversations around identity, equity, organizational culture, and systems change
• Translate learning into practical strategies that professionals can use in their everyday work
• Provide ongoing technical assistance and implementation support beyond a one-time training

The GAEYC Equity Fellowship is a wonderful example of what becomes possible when organizations invest in sustained professional learning rather than one-and-done training. And now, the Fellows themselves get to take the stage and share their learning, perspectives, and leadership. 🙌🏿

I’m looking forward to facilitating the conversation and, most importantly, making room for their voices.

If your association, organization, early childhood system, or professional network is looking for a partner to develop customized professional learning, training, facilitation, or technical assistance focused on equity, educator wellbeing, leadership, family engagement, or workforce development, I would love to connect.

♟️ What can Men’s Mental Health look like right in the neighborhood?

Today at The Realia Institute, it looked like three men gathered around our Friendship Bench—two playing chess while a third joined them in conversation.

No scheduled program.
No facilitated group.
No formal mental health activity.

They simply gathered.

And THAT matters. 💚

Our Close-Knit Friendship Bench is intentionally multipurpose. Our children use it all the time. They sit and talk. People read there. Neighbors rest. Families gather. People talk through life and its challenges. And men have a welcoming place to connect with and care for one another.

Mental health services have an important role. And mental wellbeing is also supported through the everyday relationships and spaces around us.

A chessboard. A conversation. A place to sit. People who make room for one another.

Sometimes community care really can be that simple.

Today, these three men showed us what Men’s Mental Health and community care can look like without anyone having to call it a mental health intervention.

And we have to say THANK YOU to everyone who has donated to our GoFundMe! 💚 Your support helped us launch 🚀 this community wellbeing project and create a space that our neighbors are now making their own.

We are still raising funds to maintain and grow our Close-Knit Friendship Bench—from seasonal plants and décor that keep the space beautiful and welcoming, to having a Community Mental Health Worker available multiple days each week to provide peer support, connection, and pathways to additional care when needed.

One bench. Many uses. One mission: care, connection, wellbeing, and healing.

♟️ One hello can change a life. Sit. Connect. Belong.

🔬💨 SCIENCE IN ACTION at Realia Institute! 👨🏿‍🔬👩🏾‍🔬🧑🏽‍🔬

What happens when science moves beyond the page and students get to see it, question it, experience it, and explore it for themselves?

Our Liquid Air Experiment brought plenty of curiosity—and more than a few WOW moments! 💨🧪✨

Students gathered closely to observe dramatic changes, make predictions, ask questions, and watch scientific concepts unfold right before their eyes.

And sometimes the most important part of a science lesson isn’t immediately knowing the answer.

It’s asking:

💭 What do you think will happen?
🔍 What do you notice?
🧠 Why do you think that happened?
✨ What should we try next?

At Realia Institute, we want our students to know that science isn’t simply something you read about.

Science is something you DO. ❤️🔬

EXPERIMENT. 🧪 OBSERVE. 🔍 QUESTION. 💡 DISCOVER. ✨

🌽🧈Learning Together. Cooking Together. Making Butter Together. 💛

At Realia Institute, learning comes to life through hands-on experiences!

Our students rolled up their sleeves to prepare fresh corn—peeling back the husks, removing the silk, exploring the kernels, and working alongside one another. Then came the really fun part: making homemade butter! 🧈

With plenty of shaking, teamwork, curiosity, and determination, our students watched a simple ingredient transform right before their eyes.

Experiences like these bring together practical life skills, science, sensory exploration, fine-motor development, collaboration, and the simple joy of making something together.

☀️🌊 A Great Day of Sensory Play at the Beach! 🏖️💜

Nothing beats a day of hands-on learning in nature! Our children explored the sand and water, collected seashells, built sand creations, and discovered new textures through meaningful sensory play. Every scoop, splash, and smile helped strengthen creativity, motor skills, problem-solving, and social connections.

At Realia Institute, we believe some of the best learning happens through play and exploration. Thank you to everyone who helped make this beach day full of fun, laughter, and unforgettable memories!

We regularly hear clergy indicate one area they'd like to grow in is having hard conversations. Here's a resource to develop that skill.

Managing difficult conversations with confidence

Weave founder David Brooks encourages weavers to read and practice the strategies in "Crucial Conversations" as a way to approach all conversations, especially difficult ones, with openness, curiosity, and respect. These practices help build trust and deepen relationships across differences. Weaver Arrealia Gavins, a certified "Crucial Conversations" trainer, will guide us through practical tools you can use right away to strengthen these skills. It happens March 19, 2026 at 12pm ET
