Cape Light by Joel Meyerowitz
One of the best selling books of the summer is once again back in stock!
Cape Light, Joel Meyerowitz’s series of serene and contemplative color photographs taken on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, quickly became one of the most influential and popular photography books in the latter part of the twentieth century at its publication in 1978, breaking new ground both for color photography and for the medium’s acceptance into the art world. Now, nearly fifty years later, Aperture is pleased to reissue this classic photobook.
The book features the now-iconic images of the original edition, newly remastered and printed as never before. In it, everyday scenes—an approaching storm, a local grocery store at dusk, the view through a bedroom window—are transformed by the stunning light of Cape Cod and the luminous vision of the photographer. Meyerowitz is a contemporary master of color photography, and through his eyes small-town life on the Cape is imbued with a powerful and captivating beauty.

Now in stock! We’re Just Here for the Bad Guys by Brian Van Lau
We’re Just Here for the Bad Guys chronicles Brian Van Lau’s relationship with his estranged father. Lau’s father was absent during his childhood due to his incarceration. After his release, he rebuilt his life in Vietnam, remarried, and gradually disappeared from Lau’s life. Nearly a decade later, Lau traveled to Vietnam following his father’s sudden illness, and learned of his terminal cancer. During their final week together, they collaborated on a photographic project that documented his father’s unsuccessful path toward recovery. After his father’s passing, Lau returned to his hometown in Hawai‘i seeking closure, uncovering hidden correspondence that revealed previously unknown parts of his father’s life. Entrusted with dispersing his father’s ashes across O‘ahu, the artist began working with his grandparents to reconstruct this fragmented family history through photography.

Arriving soon: Frozen Features by Jason Fulford
For nearly thirty years, Jason Fulford has built a practice on the conviction that meaning lives less inside any single photograph than in the sequence and the things that happen around it – individual pictures forced to rhyme, echo, or collapse into dissonance against their neighbours, across books, exhibitions, publishing and performance. Frozen Features pushes that instinct one step further, into a visual language of layers randomly composed from images made between 1996 and 2026. The results are a beguiling narrative governed by composition and chance – a kind of metaphysical slot machine that scours memory and returns it two frames at a time, guided by intuition.
Fulford’s pairings bounce freely across scale, place, and chronology: the smallest coiled leaf set against a vast vista, a silhouetted hand floating across a bedspread, the scrawled markings of civilisation laid directly over landscape until each image reads like a palimpsest, something continuously written upon, older writing always surfacing beneath the new. Dry humour drifts in and out, formal echoes accumulate, and the slippery relationship between any single picture and the story collapses inside square frames abundant with detail and charged with the subliminal.

To Skip a Sinking Stone by Daniel Dorsa
Two signed copies remain online! Each one includes a small signed print, courtesy of Daniel.
Photographer Daniel Dorsa first traveled to Greenland in 2023, when he was offered access to photograph the S.I.L.A. research group. Standing for the Significance of Ice-loss to Landscapes, and named after the Inuit concept Sila—denoting both the physical world as well as a spiritual understanding of living within it—the group studies glacial melt and its downstream effects. As Dorsa returned to Greenland over the years that followed, his work gradually evolved into a journal of a place caught between preservation and transformation, where ancient rhythms meet new realities.
Serving as both a pseudo-scientific documentation and a personal record, To Skip a Sinking Stone explores how Greenland, much like the ice sheet itself, embodies deep contradictions: life-giving and life-taking, ancient and ever-changing, a source of both scientific inquiry and spiritual resonance. Rather than attempting to resolve these tensions, the work embraces them. The images reflect the complexity of a land that defies containment or simplification. In Greenland, where extremes shape both land and life, joy continues to surface even in the presence of uncertainty. The title recognizes that climate change may feel like an unavoidable reality, yet people still reach for moments of light, connection, and meaning.
Through a vibrant sequence of portraits and landscapes, both celebratory and reflective, To Skip a Sinking Stone embraces Greenland’s contradictions in a moment of profound climatic, political, and cultural transition.

Mango Season by Jenia Fridyland
We’ve got just a few copies available online now and in-store tomorrow!
Jenia Fridlyand grew up in the Soviet Union in the years just prior to perestroika. Visiting Cuba in the second decade of the twenty-first century, then, felt like an uncanny homecoming. While both tangible and familiar, the grim fabric of the communist quotidian kept unravelling for Fridlyand under the bright, tropical sun. With a large-format camera and a photographic practice rooted in the American tradition, Fridlyand traveled throughout the island during several extended trips. She intuitively trained her lens on moments and scenes with the potential of holding both the known and the novel—from a pair of donkeys silhouetted against hilltops, a customer at a barber shop and a pair of rocking chairs seen through an open door, to drops of sweat on a man’s curved back and sweet fruit hanging ripe on a tree.

The Sound of Dirt and Beauty by Jesse Glazzard
In stock and shipping now!
The Sound of Dirt and Beauty is the first book by British photographer Jesse Glazzard, bringing together photographs made in the UK over the past decade among friends, lovers, and collaborators.
Rooted in working-class experience and shaped by underground q***r culture, Glazzard’s images combine portraiture and documentary, moving between intimate studio portraits and scenes of everyday life. Bodies, bedrooms, gatherings, fragments of diaries, and moments of tenderness are rendered with a raw immediacy that resists spectacle. Rather than presenting identity as a fixed category, the work allows people simply to appear as they are, reflecting a generation moving beyond rigid identity structures and embracing fluidity, experimentation, and chosen forms of belonging.
Across the book, Glazzard’s own transition unfolds alongside the shifting lives of the people around him, forming part of a wider portrait of a shared world. At the heart of the book is a desire to build an archive of the present, documenting a circle of lives often absent from official histories. Conceived as a stapled, screen-printed publication much like Glazzard’s self-published zines, the book presents this material with the directness of a record. What emerges is a portrait of friendship, intimacy, and collective life that holds vulnerability and solidarity side by side.

A Set of Tapes by Bharat Sikka
Now available to pre-order online.
A collection of cassette tapes thrifted in Los Angeles became the inspiration for Bharat Sikka’s A Set of Tapes. The publication unfolds as Side A and Side B, corresponding to two journeys made months apart. The first follows Sikka as he accompanies his daughter to Los Angeles to begin film school, introducing her to America through the shared rituals of the road trip. The second retraces that journey upon returning to bring her home after her first semester. Instead of a linear narrative, the book establishes a rhythm of departure and return, allowing distance, repetition and duration to become the work’s primary subjects.
After completing the phototgraphs, Sikka dismantled the cassette tapes themselves—unspooling their magnetic ribbon to be incorporated throughout as a series of interventions that traverse photographs and blank pages alike: a line, a gesture and a connective thread that interrupts the sequence while simultaneously holding it together. At times it resembles a road, at others a horizon, a drawing or an edit, quietly insisting on the physical construction of memory.
Despite our memory of mixtapes and the mythology of the American road trip, here the cassette is neither nostalgic nor symbolic. It is transformed into a material index of passage, binding image, object and publication into a single sequence. The work proposes that photographs do not simply preserve experience; they acquire meaning through the structures that connect them, and through the geographical, temporal and emotional landscapes they continue to traverse.

New in stock! American Teen by Joseph Szabo
In the 1970s and 1980s, while working as an art and photography teacher in Long Island, Joseph Szabo made photographs of his students, struck by the energy of a generation discovering itself in an era of rebellion and counterculture. Szabo’s black-and-white images evoke a dreamworld of adolescence as observed by a trusted outsider. Teens pose and smoke with a playful insouciance, lounge on the beach, and party at a Rolling Stones concert. Intrigued by the ambiguities of adolescent life, Szabo portrays a phase of transition shaped by self-consciousness and self-expression, and gestures to the inner depths beyond the reach of his camera.
First published in various volumes between the 1970s and the 2000s, Szabo’s pictures influenced many photographers and filmmakers. In this definitive new book, he brings together renowned and unseen work to form an unforgettable portrait of a generation and a timeless depiction of coming of age.
With new texts by commissioning editor Sofia Coppola and Kim Gordon
