UMBC’s nationally leading TESOL graduate program offers a world-class education with supportive faculty in a caring learning community to prepare you to teach learners of English in the US and abroad. The TESOL program prepares prospective and experienced teachers of English as a Second Language (ESL) and English as a Foreign Language (EFL). It provides students with a strong theoretical and practical foundation in educational linguistics, language acquisition, ESL/EFL methods, assessment, cross-cultural studies, and curriculum development. The MA TESOL includes general, P-12 certification, and thesis options. Both the master's degree and the certificate can be taken completely on campus, completely online or as a combination of on campus and online courses.
