Ms. Pam is preparing to go toe-to-toe with the Cumberland Police Department.
Charges were not filed against her attacker on the day of the attack because the officer on duty said that there was "no physical evidence" of abuse.
Later, while working with the Forensic Nurse team at the hospital, an officer came in to get her statement so charges could be filed - however, when Pam left the hospital, she learned that the charges had never been filed.
Because Pam's attacker was not placed under police custody after the incident, they were able to place assault charges on Pam and stay in her house for over a week while Pam was in the hospital. She had to go directly to the court house from the hospital (while she could barely walk) to request a Peace Order.
She still owes the hospital almost $2,500 and has tests and procedures to complete so that the damage from the attack can be repaired.

We have a right to be protected from danger. We have a right to safe housing. We have a right to affordable healthcare. We have a Right to Health!

United Workers is a member-led organization of the poor and dispossessed, fighting to end poverty for everyone, everywhere. In the meantime, we have to keep our members alive in a system that's trying to kill us. Pam is one of those members. Help us cover her medical expenses so she can continue the fight.

Pam suffered a lower spinal injury in 2016, resulting in a spinal fusion and rods being inserted. In June of this year, she was attacked and it resulted in fractured ribs, a punctured lung, damage to her spinal cord in her neck area, and damage to the original injury on her lower spine.

She spent over a week at UPMC getting treated for her ribs and lung and now owes them almost $2500. Her doctor needs her to get a brain MRI and a CT scan to come up with a plan of treatment for her spine, but she can't afford those tests. It will likely end up being surgical and she won't be able to afford the surgery either.

No one should be denied the care they need to survive. We all have a right to live and we all have a Right to Health! 💛🖤
