"When I was a teenager, my dad had a stroke that left him hospitalized and unable to work. As a result, my family faced medical bankruptcy and lost our home, where I had lived my entire life."

"I have an eye condition that was untreated for years because of financial reasons. When I entered school, I was able to get Medicaid and that allowed me to get treatment for the first time. It was life-changing! I can see 20/20 now!"

Every time we do a People's Clinic in New York City, we invite people to share for or share some thoughts on our story board. Two of those stories are above. We need Medicaid for all!

Celebrating your child's birthday should be a joyous occasion - instead it was one filled with incredible stress.

Troja was cut off of Medicaid at the same time we found out at his 12 month check up that he had elevated lead levels.

We were scrambling to figure out his insurance and had to find a private plan through the ACA marketplace.

Unfortunately because of when we signed up it would take a whole month for his coverage to start.

We had to delay his visit to the lead clinic until his coverage starts.

It’s just wild that we live in a country where even a baby is not provided with healthcare and where we have to deal with the consequences of our environments being poisened by the industries that our cities and towns have endured.

We’re temporarily living with my partner's parents while we try to do some of the work to our house to make it as safe as possible. even the sidewalk outside our house tested positive for lead.

The garden is both a source of nourishment and a form of protest against a system that denies us of our basic needs.
