Last Friday, we observed Juneteenth/Freedom Day, a day that commemorates June 19, 1865, when news of emancipation finally reached enslaved African Americans in Texas, which was more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation had taken effect.

Juneteenth reminds us that freedom is not simply the existence of rights. It is also access to the information, education and opportunities that allow people to fully participate in society.

As an organization dedicated to advancing quality higher education worldwide, ABET recognizes the importance of expanding access to learning and opportunity. By preparing future engineers, technologists and computing professionals to address society's most pressing challenges, we contribute to a future where innovation and opportunity are more broadly accessible.
