Meet Brett Ochoa, another member of our 2026-27 Young Artist Residency cohort.
Brett is entering his second year of the M.M program at Louisiana State University, where he studies voice with Robert Grayson and Paul Groves. Prior to LSU, he earned a Bachelor of Music in Performance from Georgia Southern University, where he studied under Dr. Allen Henderson.
Roles include Roméo in Roméo et Juliette, Rodolfo in La Bohème, and Tamino in Die Zauberflöte. In 2025, Brett was awarded First Place in the NSA round of the National Association of Teachers of Singing.

This is the audition that clinched the 2026-27 Young Artist Residency spot for Cristina Escobedo. 👀👇🎶
Peruvian soprano Cristina Escobedo has been praised for her “brilliant but mellifluous” tone and “sparkling vocal agility” (Times Argus, VT). A sensitive and committed performer, she is recognized for her natural interpretive instincts. Guided by a belief in music as a form of cultural connection, she brings a distinctive warmth and sincerity to her performances across both operatic and concert repertoire.
Cristina made her operatic debut in 2022 as Prima Cercatrice in Suor Angelica at the Pirandello Theater in Lima, in a production presented by the Italian Embassy of Peru. Since relocating to the United States, she has performed with numerous Vermont ensembles, including the Vermont Philharmonic, Hinesburg Artist Series, Mad River Chorale, Youth Opera Company, and the Opera Company of Middlebury. In 2024, she debuted two new roles: Giulia in Rossini’s La Scala di Seta with the Opera Company of Middlebury’s Young Artist Program, and Adina in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore with LSU’s Turner-Fischer Opera. That same year, she made her Carnegie Hall debut as a featured soloist in the Vincerò Academy Gala.
Cristina is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance at Louisiana State University, where she studies under tenors Robert Grayson and Paul Groves. Upcoming engagements include Gretel in Hänsel un Gretel with LSU Turner-Fischer Opera in the Fall of 2026.

Jordan Knapick is an operatic soprano and musical theater singer, dancer, and actress currently based in Seattle, WA. A northern Illinois native, Jordan has been a performer from
the time she could walk and talk. From a young age, she loved going to dance classes and voice lessons, and after performing as an orphan in a local youth theatre's production of
Annie at age eleven, she caught the theatre bug.
She received her MM from Boston University and her BM from Oklahoma City University, where she studied voice under Lynn Eustis and Jeffrey Picón, respectively. A lover of crossover work, Jordan has spent the past three summers as a Resident Young Artist at Ohio Light Opera, where she has sung Valencienne in The Merry Widow, Elsie Maynard in The Yeoman of the Guard, Gretchen in The Red Mill, Patience in Patience, Carrie in
Carousel, Juliette in The Count of Luxembourg, and Elsa Schraeder in The Sound of Music.
Most notably, as Juliette, Jordan’s voice “radiated sunlight, graceful in every register, and physically she managed to convey her character’s dual assets of sweetness and tenacity”
(Cleveland Classical), and her "Elsie Maynard was the vocal standout, bringing radiance and warmth to the strolling singer who happens along at just the right moment... Her scenes with
Ted Christopher’s Jack Point were among the production’s comic and musical high points" Cleveland Classical). In the '25-'26 season, Jordan was well engaged throughout the Seattle area, singing Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance with the Seattle Opera School Opera Tour, the soprano solo in Fauré’s Requiem at St. Clement’s Episcopal Church, and both Almirena in Rinaldo and Echo in Ariadne auf Naxos with Pacific Northwest Opera.
Additionally, she was awarded 2nd place in the Professional Artist Crossover category of Opera Mississippi’s John Alexander National Vocal Competition.
