đĽI help Southern women feel & look good while still eating jambalaya. đFat Loss + Food Confidence
I spoke with a woman today who had her cortisol tested, was told it was high and was immediately given supplements.
But she received almost no nutrition or lifestyle guidance.
I am not against supplements, but they should supplement the foundation, not become the entire plan.
Here are seven adjustments I would consider to support a healthy cortisol rhythm:
1. Eat a balanced breakfast within one to two hours of waking. Include protein, carbohydrates, healthy fat and fiber.
2. Eat enough throughout the day. Avoid frequently skipping meals, undereating or severely restricting carbohydrates.
3. Hydrate and rethink caffeine. Drink water first, have coffee after food and reduce it if it makes you feel anxious, wired or affects your sleep.
4. Match exercise to recovery. Your body may benefit more from strength training, walking and recovery than another intense workout.
5. Practice slow breathing. Try inhaling for four seconds and exhaling for six seconds for five minutes.
6. Regulate your nervous system throughout the day. Take a screen free walk, pray, stretch, listen to calming music or sit quietly between appointments.
7. Protect your sleep. Get morning sunlight, keep a consistent schedule and reduce stimulation at night.
You cannot supplement your way out of inadequate nutrition, poor sleep, an overloaded schedule and never allowing your body to recover.
Cortisol changes throughout the day, so the type and timing of testing matter. Persistently abnormal results should be evaluated by a qualified medical provider.

Now, Coin Night at the Texas Club is not a validated clinical assessment. đ
But if you know what it was, youâre somewhere in the window I want to talk about, and itâs the one nobody covers.
We finally talk about perimenopause. We talk plenty about your twenties. But the decade in between gets almost nothing, even though it can set the stage for everything that comes after it.
I call it Pre Peri. Itâs not a diagnosis or a condition. Itâs a window.
Progesterone may slowly start slipping. Insulin sensitivity can begin drifting. Muscle quietly starts walking out the door. Recovery gets slower, while stress stacks up faster than it used to.
Nothing that necessarily shows up as a âproblemâ on routine labs, but everything that could help explain why what used to work doesnât anymore.
And if youâre further down the road, already in perimenopause or on the other side, none of this stops applying.
Muscle, sleep, blood sugar balance and eating enough. Not one of those stops mattering with age.
Click the link to schedule a FREE 30 minute consultation (only available in September). Weâll talk through what youâre experiencing, look at the bigger picture and identify the areas that may deserve your attention, so you can stop guessing, stop trying to fix everything at once and leave with a clearer next step.

Protein deficiency doesnât always look like ânot enough muscle.â
Sometimes it looks like more hair shedding, brittle nails, feeling run down, slower recovery, or simply not feeling quite like yourself.
But hereâs the important part: none of these symptoms automatically mean youâre low in protein. Iron status, thyroid function, hormones, overall calorie intake, stress, sleep, digestion and other factors can create very similar symptoms.
Thatâs why we donât guess from one symptom. We look at the whole picture.
For a lot of women, one of the first things worth checking is surprisingly simple: Are you actually eating enough protein consistently?
Not just at dinner. Not just a shake after the gym. Enough throughout the day to support muscle, recovery, hormones, immune function and overall health.
And just as important: are you actually breaking down and absorbing that protein well?
DM me âPROTEINâ and Iâll help you figure out how much protein you need for your goals and make sure youâre breaking down and absorbing it properly.
Save this for later + send it to the friend whoâs always saying, âI know I probably need more protein.â đż
Everyone warns you about what happens to your body after kids⌠but it doesnât have to be that way.
10 years ago, I was doing CrossFit religiously. I was working out HARD and thought I was doing everything I was supposed to do.
But I wasnât fueling my body properly, I was probably drinking a little more than I should đ
, and I had PCOS and insulin resistance without even knowing it.
I thought working out more and eating âhealthyâ should automatically equal results.
But over the years, I started learning how much more goes into changing your body than simply calories and workouts.
I learned how to fuel for muscle instead of constantly trying to eat less. I became more intentional with strength training. I paid attention to recovery, stress, hormones, blood sugar and what my body was actually telling me.
And eventually, nutrition and fitness stopped feeling like something I was constantly âdoingâ and became a lifestyle that actually works for me.
Thatâs also why Iâm so passionate about looking deeper when someone tells me, âIâm eating well and working out, but nothing is changing.â
Because you CAN be doing a lot of the right things and still struggle to lose fat or gain muscle if you donât understand what may be happening underneath the surface.
Over the past few days, Iâve been breaking down some of those hidden pieces in our blood work analysis â including markers within the CMP, CBC, thyroid, hormones, glucose regulation and more.
Your labs donât tell the entire story, but they can give us valuable clues about where we may need to dig deeper.
If you feel like youâre doing everything right but your body still isnât responding the way you think it should, DM me âCONSULTâ and weâll schedule a consultation to talk through your goals and whether a lab review could be helpful for you.

𩸠The most overlooked health tool is probably sitting in your patient portal right now.
Most people look at their lab results, see the word ânormal,â and move on.
But your routine blood work can tell us so much more than whether something is simply high or low. It can provide valuable clues about whatâs happening inside your body and help guide conversations about your health.
Your labs may offer insight into:
⨠Metabolic health
⨠Blood sugar regulation
⨠Cholesterol and cardiovascular health
⨠Protein and muscle status
⨠Hydration and electrolyte balance
⨠Iron and oxygen-carrying capacity
⨠Vitamin and nutrient status
⨠Liver and kidney function
⨠Thyroid and hormone health
⨠Inflammation and immune function
While routine blood work doesnât tell the whole story or diagnose every condition, it can help identify patterns, monitor progress over time, and highlight areas that may benefit from further evaluation.
One of my favorite parts? Many of these markers can be influenced by the choices you make every dayânutrition, movement, sleep, stress management, and hydration all play an important role in your overall health.
Understanding your labs isnât about becoming your own doctor or obsessing over every number. Itâs about learning what those numbers mean so you can ask better questions, make informed decisions, and take an active role in your health.
đŹ If you could pick ONE lab marker to understand better, what would it be? Drop it in the commentsâI may cover it during my workshop!

These 5 white blood cell markers can sometimes give us clues about inflammation and how your immune system is responding. They canât diagnose gut issues on their own, but when paired with your symptoms and health history, they can help us decide whether itâs worth digging deeper.
⨠Neutrophils (Some functional practitioners prefer ~40â60%.)
Can increase with inflammation, stress, infection, or higher cortisol. Looking at the balance between neutrophils and lymphocytes can provide additional context, but it doesnât diagnose a specific condition.
⨠Lymphocytes (~24â42%.)
Help fight infections. Higher or lower levels can happen for many reasons, so we always interpret them as part of the bigger picture.
⨠Monocytes (~2â7%.)
May be elevated with ongoing inflammation or while your body is recovering from an infection.
⨠Eosinophils (~0.5â3%.)
Can be elevated with allergies, certain parasitic infections, or some gastrointestinal conditions.
⨠Basophils (~0â1%.)
Can increase with allergic or inflammatory responses and are most helpful when viewed alongside your other lab markers.
đĄ The key isnât one numberâitâs the pattern.
A CBC isnât a gut health test, but it can provide valuable clues when someone is dealing with bloating, fatigue, digestive symptoms, or feeling stuck despite eating well and exercising.
Thatâs why we donât just look at calories and macro, we look at your symptoms, your lifestyle, and your labs to help determine whether thereâs a deeper issue worth investigating.
If youâve been doing âeverything rightâ and still arenât seeing progress, it may be time to look deeper instead of simply eating less or doing more cardio.
