Lately, I’ve been painting the things I find myself drawn to over and over again—big skies, quiet landscapes, old places, water, trees, and those small signs of life that make a place feel lived in.

Some of these paintings are peaceful. Some feel a little lonely. Others are more about memory and the feeling of being somewhere than the place itself.

I’m realizing more and more that I don’t want to paint every detail. I like leaving room for the atmosphere, the light, and the viewer to finish part of the story.

These are a few of the things I’ve enjoyed painting lately. Which one would you stop and look at the longest?

Standing here with the first piece of mine to sell tonight at the Beaumont Art League show.

There’s something different about watching someone you’ve never met connect with a painting enough to want to take it home. You spend hours alone at a desk making these things, never really knowing how someone else will respond when they finally see them.

Tonight, one of them found a home.

I’m grateful to everyone who came out, stopped to look, asked about the work, or simply offered a kind word. Moments like this make me excited to see where this little art journey goes next.

And to the person taking this painting home—thank you. I hope you enjoy living with it as much as I enjoyed creating it.

There’s always a point in a painting where I have to decide whether to keep working or finally put the brush down. I could probably find ten more things to change, but I’m learning that sometimes a painting needs a little imperfection and mystery left in it.

This one challenged me to work with fewer details, softer edges, and more atmosphere—to let the watercolor suggest the landscape instead of explaining every part of it.

I’m calling it Where the Egrets Go.

I think this one represents the direction I want to keep pushing my work.
