LSU R**E ALLEGATION.
The East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney’s Office has opened a criminal investigation into an alleged sexual assault involving a student-athlete and a student on LSU’s campus.

🚨We are not publicly identifying the victim or suspect.

According to LSU, the incident was first reported to police by the student-athlete, but no criminal complaint was reportedly filed at the time. The university said it also followed its Title IX policies.

I shared the story of Jehane Draper, a mother still searching for answers about the death of her 30-year-old son, De’Troit Draper, while he was incarcerated at Elayn Hunt Correctional Center.

But WHY should what happens behind prison walls matter to people?

Loyola Law professor Andrea Armstrong puts it plainly:

📌prisons and jails are government institutions
📌They operate in our name and with our tax dollars

That means questions about what happens inside them are questions about public accountability.

De’Troit’s mother says she is still trying to understand what happened during the final hours of her son’s life.

Jehane Draper says she learned her son had died in prison through a Facebook message from one of his friends.

There was no official notification from the prison.

De’Troit Draper was 30 when he died at Elayn Hunt Correctional Center. The coroner’s reports lists sudden death associated with epilepsy as the cause, but Jehane says he had no history of seizures or epilepsy.

Months later she says she is still looking for answers about what happened and why she wasn’t notified sooner.

The Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections denied an open records request for more information, saying that under Louisiana law, the investigative reports she (and I) asked for are not considered public records.
