Referring providers tell us the same thing: a client goes in, and then it's quiet until discharge, or later.
It doesn't have to work that way. Discharge planning here starts early β day one, not something assembled the week someone leaves.
Step-down is a real, structured path, not a phrase on a brochure. A large percentage of patients move from inpatient into IOP rather than leaving care altogether, continuing the same continuum instead of starting over somewhere else.
Treatment works, and continuity after discharge is part of why it holds.
With a release of information on file, you can be part of that handoff β not reconstructing the case from scratch when your client resurfaces.

"What happens to my job if I take time for this" is a real question, and it deserves a real answer instead of a reassurance that skips past it.
We're not going to pretend the concern isn't legitimate. Plenty of people call their HR department with questions before they ever call us β that's a sensible order, not a sign of hesitation.
What time away actually looks like depends on the specifics of your situation and your plan of care. That's exactly what an intake conversation is for β working through it together, before anything is decided.
Treatment works, and figuring out the practical pieces alongside it is part of the process, not an obstacle to it.
You can ask about the job question before you decide anything else. That's exactly when to ask it.

Grief is supposed to move, slowly, on its own. Watching someone stay stuck in it for months raises a question most families don't know what to do with.
Loss feels heavy β that part's expected. What you're describing sounds heavier than that, and longer than that.
There's a real way to look at the difference, and it isn't about judging how someone grieves. An evaluation can tell whether this has become something clinical sitting inside the grief, not instead of it.
Treatment works, including when it starts as a question about grief rather than a diagnosis.
If you're wrong about how bad it is, you've still just asked a question. That's never the wrong move.

September 17. This is on the wall outside our inpatient building. There is a bench underneath where staff can gather and take a break and just talk. Stephen would spend a lot of time visiting with staff outside before he even made it into the building. Stephen founded Regions. We remember him today.

Clients ask what a day of inpatient care actually looks like, and "structured" undersells it.
There's a schedule β groups, meals, medical checks β built around treatment rather than around free time. It's not a hallway with nothing happening in it.
On the medical side: Regions' policy is that a patient is seen by psychiatry the next day, and medical physician monitoring runs alongside the psychiatric care throughout the stay.
Treatment works, and structure is part of how it works β not incidental to it.
You can describe the shape of a day to your client yourself, or call and we'll answer whatever's specific to their situation.

If you've been wondering whether to call, the call is a conversation. What happens after is up to you.

"I've just been stressed" is doing a lot of work in that sentence, especially if it's covered months instead of days.
Everyone's tired right now β that part's true and it's also not the same thing as what you're describing. Stress usually has an edge you can point to. What you're carrying doesn't seem to.
There's a real way to tell the difference, and it isn't a guess. An evaluation looks at what's actually going on, not just how long it's been going on.
Treatment works, whichever way this turns out.
Either way, you'll know β and knowing beats carrying the question around unanswered.

There's a version of a psychiatric hospital that exists mostly in imagination β for the worst-case stories, not for a family like yours.
That version isn't accurate. The building doesn't sort people by how bad things look from the outside.
The people who come through here are teachers between periods, nurses off a shift, parents who dropped the kids at school first. People who show up every day, same as you.
Treatment works, and it works for exactly the range of people who actually ask for it β not a narrower group than that.
It's whoever needs care. That includes you, if it comes to that.
