Southern University is embarking on a new project to increase on-campus student housing capacity by 850 beds. The project, located near the Horace W. Moody Intramural Sports Complex, will be built in phases, with the first phase of 500 beds expected to be completed within 13 months. The nearly $80 million project will feature a four-story complex with study rooms, common spaces on each floor, and dining facilities. This initiative is a collaboration between Southern University, the Southern University System Foundation, and the Louisiana Public Facilities Authority, aimed at supporting enrollment growth and enhancing the student experience. School officials believe the project will create a vibrant residential campus experience and provide modern living environments to support academic achievement and student engagement.

Drones were used to smuggle drugs and other contraband into ten federal prisons, including the Federal Correctional Complex in Prince George County, Virginia. The operation, based out of a former daycare in Macon, Georgia, involved dropping illegal items such as methamphetamine, ma*****na, weapons, cell phones, and to***co into the prisons. Twelve individuals, including Ira Christopher Jackson, have been charged in connection with the scheme. The drones were activated near "The Lab" in Macon, where items were stored for the conspiracy.
