Did you know? Our Cathedral holds a precious relic of Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos!

Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos (1819-1867) was a holy Redemptorist priest who served tirelessly in 19th-century America, especially known for his compassionate ministry to immigrants, the poor, and the sick. He was deeply committed to bringing Christ's healing presence to those suffering from illness.

Father Cary uses this relic during the Anointing of the Sick, connecting us to Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos's own devotion to the infirm. It's a powerful reminder of God's healing grace and the communion of saints!

Tomorrow at our noon time celebration of Mass honoring the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Fr. Cary will lead the congregation in the Prayer of Consecration of the Nation to the Protection and Care of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, continuing in our local parish what the what the Bishops of the country will do today. All are welcome to join us, but if you cannot, please join the Bishops today in praying this prayer.

Today, the Bishops of the United States will consecrate the United States of America to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Parishes and individuals around the country are encouraged to join the U.S. Catholic bishops in this historic occasion, beginning with this Prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus written for the consecration.

Today we celebrated Corpus Christi with Mass and a Eucharistic procession around our block, carrying the Blessed Sacrament as a public witness of our faith, adoration, praise, and thanksgiving.

Thank you to the Knights and Dames of the Holy Sepulchre for joining us in prayer and helping make this day even more beautiful.

May our encounter with Jesus in the Eucharist strengthen our unity as one People of God and renew our hope for the journey ahead.

Today, we gathered with Catholic Charities Diocese of Baton Rouge for the 2026 Hurricane Mass celebrated by Bishop Michael Duca.

As hurricane season begins, we join together in prayer for protection, peace, and safety for all throughout our community and beyond. Thank you to everyone who worshiped and prayed with us today.

This will be at noon central time. Division and discord exist. Prayer is an integral part of our experience as Christians and we rely on the mercy of God and the inspiration of the Holy Spirit when our own words and actions aren’t enough.

To accompany his constant calls for peace in the world, Pope Leo XIV will lead the prayer of the Holy Rosary on May 30 at 7:00 PM Rome time from the Vatican Gardens.

He will lead the faithful in Shrines around the world in praying the Joyful Mysteries, with each decade being dedicated specifically for those affected by war and violence and entrusting them to the intercession of Mary, Queen of Peace.

The first mystery prays for the victims of war, especially the most vulnerable, while the second is for those who bring words of hope and the comfort of faith to populations affected by war. The third recalls the medical and paramedical personnel and volunteers who bring humanitarian aid every day.

The fourth mystery prays for those who suffer the violence of war, for prisoners and for all who endure humiliations that violate human dignity. The fifth and final Joyful Mystery is dedicated to praying for an end to war and the establishment of lasting peace in the world.

Join us this Friday, May 29 at Noon at St. Joseph Cathedral in Baton Rouge for the 2026 Hurricane Mass, held in conjunction with Catholic Charities Diocese of Baton Rouge, as we come together in prayer for a peaceful and quiet hurricane season. Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Michael Duca. All are welcome!

Congratulations, Father Cary Bani, on 19 years of priesthood! Today we give thanks to the Lord for calling you to communion with the eternal priesthood of Jesus Christ and for serving His Church. May God deepen your grace, and may you continue to renew the dedication you made to Jesus Christ and His Church, remaining close to the divine Master and faithful in stewarding His mysteries.

On this Pentecost Sunday, our Cathedral welcomed more than 100 candidates from parishes across the diocese who received the Sacrament of Confirmation from Bishop Duca and Bishop Emeritus Muench.

We give thanks to the Holy Spirit for moving in the hearts of all those confirmed today, and we pray that they will continue to grow in faith, courage, and love for Christ and his Church. Congratulations to all who received the Sacrament of Confirmation!
