We’ll depart Baton Rouge at 9:00 AM and spend the day enjoying a cruise aboard the Natchez Steamboat, complete with lunch, followed by a docent-guided tour of St. Louis Cathedral at 2:00 PM. After the tour, there will be a little time to explore Jackson Square before gathering for Mass at St. Louis Cathedral at 4:00 PM. We’ll depart New Orleans at 5:00 PM and return to Baton Rouge that evening.

Today, September 21, we celebrate the Feast of Saint Matthew, Apostle and Evangelist.

Our beautiful St. Matthew stained-glass window is one of the four Evangelist windows, with Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John standing together as the inspired authors of the four Gospels. Together, their writings give us the heart of Scripture and proclaim the life, teachings, and saving message of Jesus Christ.

We give thanks today for St. Matthew and the Good News he helped share with the Church. 🙏

The sacristy is an important space within St. Joseph Cathedral, where clergy and ministers prepare for Mass and care for the sacred vessels and vestments used in worship.

With support from the Preservation Society, several improvements were made to the space:

- New sacrarium: A dedicated sink used for the reverent purification of sacred vessels
- Updated countertops
- Repairs to water-damaged walls
- New incense station: A dedicated area for preparing the censer

These improvements help preserve and maintain an important part of the Cathedral and ensure the sacristy continues to serve its purpose for years to come.

Today, September 15, the Church celebrates the Memorial of Our Lady of Sorrows, honoring the seven sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Our Lady of Sorrows is also the original title under which our parish was founded in 1792. To mark this special connection to our parish’s history, a portrait of Our Lady of Sorrows is on display in the church this week.

The portrait was given to the people of the parish by King Juan Carlos of Spain in celebration of our 200th anniversary as a community.

We invite you to take a moment to visit the portrait and reflect on Mary’s sorrows and her steadfast faith and devotion to her Son.

Fr. Lormeus joined us for Mass as part of his visit to our parish. We are grateful for the opportunity to welcome him and to learn more about the work of Cross Catholic Outreach, which serves communities in some of the most underdeveloped areas around the world.
