Make a difference in Louisiana communities!

The Louisiana Resiliency Corps is now recruiting AmeriCorps Volunteers for service opportunities across Louisiana. Volunteers will serve through LSU AgCenter Extension offices, research and education centers, and approved partner sites to help strengthen community resilience and disaster mitigation efforts.

Service opportunities may include:
• 4-H youth development and service-learning
• Agriculture and natural resources outreach
• Healthy homes and resilient housing
• Nutrition, food safety and community health
• Climate, weather and coastal resilience outreach
• Volunteer coordination and community engagement
• Educational materials, outreach campaigns and impact tracking

Service options include:
Minimum-Time Volunteer: 300 hours | Up to $3,000 living allowance + $1,565.08 Segal AmeriCorps Education Award

Quarter-Time Volunteer: 450 hours | Up to $5,000 living allowance + $1,956.35 Segal AmeriCorps Education Award

Volunteers may include high school students age 17+, college students, recent graduates, community volunteers, Extension and 4-H alumni, retirees and others interested in meaningful public service. Applicants must meet AmeriCorps eligibility requirements.

We have officially inventoried 100,000 trees in East Baton Rouge Parish!!!

Tree inventories are a great first step to MANAGING the community canopy! When we know what trees are out there, it can help in our decision-making for planting, pruning, removals, ecology and safety.

🌳🔎 Out in the field for tree inventory with our apprentices!

With the BRG Team and Baton Roots Apprentices, inventory isn’t just about counting trees, it’s also a chance for apprentices to sharpen those arborist skills! Today’s lesson? Learning how to spot included bark and CODIT in action. 👀🌿

Included bark can create a weak point where branches or stems meet, while CODIT (Compartmentalization of Decay in Trees) is one of the ways trees respond to injury and contain decay.

Every tree has a story, and knowing what to look for helps us better understand and care for the urban forest. 🌳💚

This is a building that was once owned by one of Baton Rouge Green’s founding members, David Ellison Sr. So, in a way, there’s been a pretty long-running connection between BRG and 336 Louisiana Avenue, dating all the way back to 1987! 🌿🏙️
