Scouting U Announces a New Hazardous Weather Course - Weather Smart

Weather can change in an instant. Are you prepared to make the right decision when it does?

Whether it’s a campout, hike, service project, or high-adventure trek, weather is key to planning a safe Scouting activity.

This new course gives leaders practical guidance to:

• Monitor changing weather conditions
• Understand watches and warnings
• Recognize severe weather risks
• Develop emergency action plans
• Know when and how to take protective action

From thunderstorms and extreme temperatures to flooding, severe storms, and hurricanes, the course focuses on real-world situations Scouting leaders may encounter.

Congratulations to Noah F. of Troop 270 in Hammond, LA on earning the rank of Eagle Scout! 🦅

For his Eagle Scout project, Noah designed and constructed two well-built, elevated lifeguard chairs to strengthen safety measures and improve supervision at Camp Glenwood in Folsom. His project will help support a safer environment for Scouts and visitors for years to come.

Noah’s leadership, planning, and commitment to service are a true reflection of the Eagle Scout spirit.

Today, on Patriot Day, we pause to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and honor the courage of the first responders, service members, and everyday heroes who answered with bravery and compassion.

As we reflect on 25 years, we remember not only the tragedy of that day, but also the unity, resilience, and strength that followed. May we continue to honor their memory through service, kindness, and a renewed commitment to one another.

We will never forget.

For his Eagle Scout project, Nick oversaw the design, construction, and installation of two benches on the new public pier on beautiful **False River** in downtown New Roads. These benches are already being enjoyed by local citizens and visitors as a comfortable place to eat lunch, fish, or simply relax and take in the view.

Nick’s project is a lasting contribution to the community and a great example of leadership, service, and dedication.
