The Baton Rouge area largely avoided the worst of Arthur’s impacts today.

The heaviest rain bands and several tornado-producing storms stayed to our east and west, while parts of southeast Louisiana picked up 7-10"+ of rain and experienced tornado damage.

Even so, we’re not quite done yet. Storms continue across parts of the state this morning.

5:30AM - Monitoring shower and storm development northwest of Baton Rouge that has begun to flare up. High rainfall rates will lead to a flood threat as these storms continue tracking eastward.

CONFIRMED TORNADO near Houma as of 3:16 am moving northeast at 25mph, heading towards Lockport!

UPDATE: The Weather Prediction Center has upgraded parts of eastern Louisiana, south Mississippi, as well as coastal Alabama and the Florida Panhandle to a HIGH risk for flash flooding today. Significant flooding is expected as we go through the day.

An active morning in southeast Louisiana with multiple tornado warnings and flood warnings. Not that we wish it on anyone, but thankfully, the worst has been south and east of the Baton Rouge area so far. We will continue to watch things through the morning.

A TORNADO WATCH is now in effect until 6am Thursday.
