This past weekend, four Louisiana State Police Troopers traveled to Okeechobee, Florida, to compete in the Patriot Games Team Event, where they achieved outstanding results.

Lieutenant Philip Hanks and Trooper Zachary Thomas earned 1st Place in the Law Enforcement Division and in the Intermediate Division. Their performance also earned them the distinction of Top Shot Overall. Lieutenant Jordan Garrett and Sergeant Trey Granier earned 2nd Place in the same events, completing a strong showing by both teams.

The Patriot Games Team Event is designed to challenge competitors through events that test physical fitness, fi****ms proficiency, teamwork, communication, and the ability to perform effectively under pressure.

While these Troopers participated independently and on their own time, their accomplishments demonstrate the dedication to training, physical readiness, teamwork, and professional development that they bring to their service with the Louisiana State Police.

LSP congratulates Lt. Hanks, TPR. Thomas, Lt. Garrett, and Sgt. Granier on their achievements and recognizes their commitment to maintaining a high standard of individual and team performance.

LSP Gaming Enforcement Investigation Leads to Arrest in Fraud Scheme

Baton Rouge – On October 15, 2024, the L’Auberge Casino Baton Rouge notified the Louisiana State Police Gaming Enforcement Division, Baton Rouge Field Office, of an incident involving fraudulent activity. Detectives began an investigation into the matter, which resulted in the arrest of 43-year-old Shamika Brown of Alexandria.

The investigation revealed that Brown used falsified Social Security numbers to collect 16 jackpots at L’Auberge Casino Baton Rouge in 2020 totaling more than $41,000, in an attempt to circumvent paying an overdue child support obligation to the Department of Children and Family Services.

Additionally, Brown collected a jackpot of nearly $2,500 at another Baton Rouge casino in 2023 using false identifying information. In October 2024, Brown provided additional false Social Security numbers while attempting to collect a $1,264 jackpot at L’Auberge Casino Baton Rouge.

As a result of the investigation, an arrest warrant was obtained through the 19th Judicial District Court. On September 21, 2026, an LSP Gaming Enforcement investigator recognized Brown at L’Auberge Casino Baton Rouge as she attempted to retrieve the same $1,264 jackpot from October 2024.

Brown was arrested on the outstanding warrant and subsequently booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison for 18 counts of Bank Fraud and Identity Theft. This investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges may be forthcoming.

Mississippi Man Arrested Following Fatal Motorcycle Crash in West Feliciana Parish

Saint Francisville – Shortly before 6:30 p.m. on September 21, 2026, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash involving a motorcycle on US 61 near West Feliciana Parkway in West Feliciana Parish. The crash claimed the life of a 28-year-old man from St. Francisville.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by 40-year-old Andre Jones of Vicksburg, Mississippi, was traveling north on US 61 in the right lane. At the same time, a 1998 Honda Shadow motorcycle was traveling north on US 61 in the left lane. For reasons still under investigation, Jones attempted to make a U-turn from the right northbound lane to travel south on US 61 and entered the path of the motorcycle. As a result, the motorcycle struck the driver’s side of the Tahoe.

The motorcyclist was wearing a DOT-approved helmet, sustained life-threatening injuries, and was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Jones sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital. Two other passengers in the Tahoe were uninjured as a result of this crash. Impairment is not suspected; however, routine toxicology samples will be obtained and submitted for analysis.

As a result of the on-scene investigation, Jones was arrested and booked into the West Feliciana Parish Jail for Negligent Homicide, Careless Operation, No Insurance, and Window Tint. This crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana State Police wishes to remind motorists to remain alert and carefully check for approaching traffic before turning, changing lanes, or entering another travel lane. Motorcycles are smaller and can be more difficult to see, making it especially important to check mirrors and blind spots. Motorcyclists should remain vigilant, and always wear a DOT-approved helmet. A few extra seconds of awareness can help prevent a serious or fatal crash.

Louisiana State Police Detectives Investigating Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office
Deputy-Involved Shooting

Jennings – On September 21, 2026, at approximately 9:15 p.m., detectives within the Criminal Investigations Division, Sulphur Field Office, were requested by the Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office (JDPSO) to investigate a deputy-involved shooting that occurred at a business near the 1800 block of Elton Road.

The preliminary investigation revealed that JDPSO deputies responded to the gas station following a reported armed robbery. While searching the area, a JDPSO deputy located the subject lying in a ditch behind the business. The subject charged toward the deputy while armed with a knife. In response, the deputy discharged his service weapon striking the subject.

The subject was transported to an area hospital for treatment. No deputies were injured during the incident. This remains an active investigation. Additional details will be released as they become available.

Joint Enforcement Task Force Results in 32 Criminal Arrests

Morehouse/Ouachita Parishes – Over the weekend, Louisiana State Police Troop F and Detectives within the Criminal Investigation Division, Monroe Field Office, conducted a two-day enforcement detail in response to an increase in criminal activity within the Troop F area. This initiative is designed to enhance community safety through proactive policing strategies targeting violent crime, drug trafficking, and the illegal possession of fi****ms.

As a result of focused enforcement efforts, Troopers conducted 188 traffic stops, resulting in the following enforcement actions and seizures:

• 109 warnings issued
• 80 traffic charges
• 21 fugitive warrant arrest
• 1 DWI arrest
• 3 fi***rm seizures
• Seizure of approximately 21 grams of methamphetamine
• Seizure of approximately 239.3 grams of ma*****na
• Seizure of approximately 2 grams of synthetic ma*****na
• Seizure of 11 schedule pills

State Police to Participate in National Seat Check Saturday

Baton Rouge: This Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., the Louisiana State Police will participate in National Seat Check Saturday by partnering with the Louisiana Passenger Safety Task Force and local agencies to provide free child passenger safety seat checks throughout the state. Nationally certified child passenger safety technicians will conduct seat checks, provide hands-on inspections, and answer questions at no charge.

Car seats and booster seats save lives. They offer the best protection for children in a crash. It’s estimated that over 11,600 lives of children under 5 have been saved since 1975 because of child restraint use, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Unfortunately, the majority of children are in a safety seat that is the wrong size/type or is improperly installed. Caregivers should ensure children are properly restrained in an appropriate child safety seat, booster seat, or seat belt anytime they travel in a vehicle.

Child safety seats are available to Louisiana families in need; however, numbers are limited. You must be registered and receive a confirmation to qualify. To register, please visit: www.umcno.org/childseats. Also, the vehicle and child must be present to ensure proper fit.
