Yes, it’s football season. 🏈 Yes, we’re back in school. ✏️ But most importantly… it’s almost time for Fire Prevention Week!

October is one of our favorite months because we get to take fire safety all across our community! We’ll be visiting schools, attending community events, and sharing plenty of fire safety gems along the way.
But one of our favorite parts? Welcoming YOU to our campus for Fire Safety Friday!

At approximately 1:46 p.m. on Monday, September 7, the St. George Fire Department responded to a reported residential structure fire at the 7500 block of John Newcombe Ave.

Engine 613 arrived to find a single-story home with heavy smoke showing from the eaves and visible fire near the rear of the residence. Crews quickly declared a working fire and began fire suppression operations while additional units responded to the scene.

Firefighters deployed hose lines to both the exterior and interior of the home, locating fire in the garage and attic area. Crews pulled portions of the ceiling to gain access to the fire and were able to quickly knock down the main body of the fire before continuing to extinguish remaining hot spots.

Additional crews established a water supply, conducted searches of the residence, and assisted with overhaul operations.

The fire was brought under control with no injuries reported.

The Red Cross was called to assist with the displacement of 4 individuals.

Following an investigation and review of all available information and data, SGFD investigators determined the fire was accidental and caused by a lightning strike in the vicinity of the residence.

Assigned units: Engine 613, Ladder 628, Engine 653, Medic Unit 687, Squad 605, Engine 623, Battalion Chiefs 6 & 82, Ladder 618, Shift Safety Officer 91.

3 a.m. UPDATE: scene is clear. Bluebonnet is open.

HAPPENING NOW: crews are on scene of a vehicle fire causing Bluebonnet. Blvd. at Highland Rd to be completely BLOCKED.

The August stats are in and back to school is in full swing!
That means our Fire & Life Safety Education Team is getting ready to hit the classrooms! We can’t wait to visit your kiddos’ schools this fall and teach them all the good stuff when it comes to fire safety, prevention, and knowing what to do in an emergency.
