The CACRC was incorporated as a non-profit in 1997 and has been recycling electronics for the past twelve years.
Capital Area Corporate Recycling Council (CACRC) transforms electronic waste into opportunity by responsibly recycling technology and restoring access to computers that support education, workforce readiness, and community stability across Louisiana. • The CACRC is committed to providing refurbished computer systems to low-income families, non-profits, schools, and relief projects.
• The CACRC is committed to managing incoming electronic discards within the framework of reuse, recover, and recycle; using onsite and downstream management of focus materials within the standards of R2 throughout the recycling chain.

Our business is part of the small niche of electronic recyclers in the country that are classified as non-profit refurbishers, currently a little over 2% of the electronic recycling industry. E-Refurbishers like the CACRC triage incoming equipment and place as much as possible into the reuse market, community reuse programs, and disaster relief programs. The CACRC is able to refurbish for reuse the working equipment that comes into our various programs and recycle the rest using qualified vendors in the country (www.cacrc.com). The CACRC receives donations of used computer/electronic equipment. The CACRC is located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana at 1400 Main Street 70802 and operates a 35,000 square foot facility. Operating as a drop-off site for the local community, the CACRC also collects electronic material in the Gulf Coast Region and hosts community e-recycling events. The CACRC reuses and recycles over 1,200 tons of electronic discards annually from government agencies, businesses, and individuals. As a licensed Microsoft Registered Refurbisher (MRR), the CACRC manages community programs- Computers for Louisiana's Families, Seniors, Veterans-which refurbish computers for schools, non-profits, and low income families. The computers are loaded with the appropriate licensed software and carry a 60-day warranty. The CACRC, under the MRR agreement, also spearheaded a national hurricane relief effort after Hurricane Katrina donating over 3,500 computers. In fall 2005 the CACRC launched the largest collection of computers nationwide for hurricane relief. Over the next 18 months the CACRC refurbished and donated free of charge 3500 computers to schools, non-profits and individuals impacted by Katrina and Rita. In 2007-2008 in partnership with the Baton Rouge Area Foundation and St. Joseph's Academy the CACRC refurbished 400 computer systems that went to the Cordoba Mexico school system and orphanages. In December 2008 the CACRC donated 100 computer systems to Mission Honduras International. In May 2008 the CACRC was featured on the Sundance Channel's Big Ideas for a Small Planet: Recycle as a model program. CACRC was also one of three non-profit recyclers highlighted on Microsoft's website in 2008. In 2008 the CACRC refurbished 1500 recycled laptop computers: 1200 went into the New Orleans school system for every 8th grader to have a laptop for LEAP testing practice and 300 went to low income families and non-profits. Since 2005 the Computers for La Families Program which sells refurbished computers to families with children of free or reduced lunch reached over 10,000 families in the state. In 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 the CACRC was awarded the DEQ's Environmental Leadership Award for Non-profits. Nancy Jo Craig, Executive Director, was awarded in 2013 the Lifetime of Achievement Award by the International Computer Refurbishers Summit. In 2015 the CACRC held over 30 Electronic Recycling Events within the state. In 2015 the CACRC recycled 1200 tons of electronic material. The CACRC has low priced refurbished computers and laptops available in our store that have a one year warranty!

Here is the whole process, so none of it is a mystery before you dial.
You call. We ask what you have and roughly how much of it. We agree on a time.
Then we come to you, anywhere in Louisiana, and our team does the lifting.
Every device gets secure handling, certified data destruction, and documentation to prove it happened. We are an R2 certified recycler, which means that process is audited by people who do not work for us.
Anything with life left in it is refurbished and goes back out into the community. The rest is recycled responsibly.
There is nothing to sign before you know the cost. Pickups are free or low cost depending on what you have and where you are, and we tell you which one before anything gets scheduled.

CACRC is getting ready for Digital Inclusion Week, October 5-9, and we hope that you will participate. We will be hosting several events throughout the week and hope to engage in meaningful conversation about barriers in our community and how the lack access to a device, internet connection, or skills broadens those barriers.
We will be hosting a Digital Inclusion Roundtable that will bring nonprofit and community leaders together for a focused conversation about the barriers facing the people they serve and the ways limited digital access can make those barriers harder to overcome. Participants will discuss challenges related to device ownership, connectivity, digital skills, and technical support, while identifying existing community resources and opportunities for stronger collaboration.
Our goal of the Digital Inclusion Roundtable is to move from conversation to action by identifying shared digital access challenges, uncovering opportunities for partnership, and establishing practical next steps that can help bridge the digital divide across our community.
This event will be in person at our new Community Connectivity Hub, but we will also have a virtual option. We hope you can join us.

There is usually a second pile.

Nicole and Robyn spent the morning promoting affordable digital access at the 2 The People resource fair. This was a great event that connected people with a variety of community resources, business attire, health clinics, and more.

Yesterday, our Nicole, Director of Development, attended the Louisiana Alliance for Nonprofits North Louisiana Impact Conference AND the Step Forward Convening with Community Foundation of North Louisiana at LSU-Shreveport with the goal of building partnerships in northern Louisiana to work together to bring digital access and close the digital divide. She also delivered several computers to Dr. Sharon Green.
We are excited to expand our digital access footprint across the state in 2027. We hope you follow with us on this journey!

Not everyone has a spare computer sitting in a closet.
