The final days of summer can be a good time for teens to gently reset before school begins.
Start by moving bedtime earlier, limiting late-night screen time, eating regular meals and adding simple structure back into the day. Reconnecting with family, supportive friends, mentors or community groups can also help teens feel more grounded and prepared.
The goal is not to change everything overnight. Small adjustments now can make the return to school feel less stressful.
CAN Behavioral Health encourages teens and families to end summer with healthy habits that support better sleep, stronger focus and emotional wellness.

Summer is a good time for teens to pause and check in with themselves.
How is your mood? How is your sleep? Are you feeling connected or isolated? Are you using your phone to cope? Are you making choices that protect your health and future?
These questions are not about judging yourself. They are about noticing what you need.
If something feels off, talk to someone you trust. Support is not only for crisis moments. It is also for the days when you feel tired, disconnected, pressured, or unsure.
CAN Behavioral Health reminds teens and families that mental health deserves attention all summer long.

Teens do not always say when they are struggling.
Sometimes changes show up in smaller ways, like sleeping more or less, pulling away from family, losing interest in activities, feeling irritable, spending more time online, or making risky choices.
A simple check-in can open the door.
Ask how they are feeling. Ask what has felt hard lately. Ask who they are spending time with. Ask what support would help.
You do not need a perfect conversation to make an impact. You just need to be present, calm, and willing to listen.
CAN Behavioral Health encourages families to make emotional check-ins a normal part of summer.

Summer should give teens room to rest, but too little structure can make the days feel empty.
A flexible routine can help teens stay motivated, connected, and emotionally balanced without making summer feel stressful.
Adults can support teens by encouraging small goals, regular sleep, daily movement, family time, healthy meals, screen breaks, and activities that give the day purpose.
The goal is not to control every minute.
The goal is to help teens feel capable, supported, and steady while school is out.
CAN Behavioral Health reminds parents and caregivers that structure works best when it comes with patience, encouragement, and connection.

Being online all day does not always mean feeling truly connected.
Phones can help teens stay in touch, but meaningful connection often happens through real conversations, supportive friendships, family time, sports, volunteering, faith groups, and community activities.
When teens feel seen, supported, and included, they are more likely to speak up, set healthy boundaries, and make safer choices when facing pressure involving drugs or alcohol.
This summer, encourage connection that strengthens confidence, protects mental health, and reminds teens they are never alone.
CAN Behavioral Health supports teens and families in building relationships that feel real, safe, and supportive.

Summer freedom should not turn into summer risk.
More free time, fewer routines, and pressure from friends can place teens in situations involving alcohol, va**ng, drugs, or unsafe choices. That is why prevention needs to begin before the moment arrives.
Set clear expectations. Talk openly about peer pressure. Know where your teen is going, who they are with, and how they can contact a trusted adult when something does not feel right.
Choosing not to use drugs or alcohol is not about missing out. It is about protecting their health, safety, goals, and future.
CAN Behavioral Health helps teens and families build safer choices through honest conversations, strong boundaries, and consistent support.

Sometimes boredom feels heavier than it looks.
For some teens, long stretches of unstructured time can quietly turn into loneliness, anxiety, overthinking, or feeling disconnected. What looks like “just relaxing” may actually be a sign they’re struggling.
Summer doesn’t need to be packed with activities—but connection matters.
A simple routine, time outdoors, a favorite hobby, meaningful family conversations, positive friendships, or involvement in a trusted community or faith group can help teens feel more engaged, supported, and emotionally grounded.
Sometimes the most important thing we can do isn’t solve the problem—it’s simply notice, ask how they’re doing, and listen.
At CAN Behavioral Health, we believe small conversations today can make a lasting difference tomorrow.
