Not only is the Tyrrell Historical Library beautiful, but it is full of treasures from days past. While researching the history of The Gilbert Building, the original blue prints from 1902 were discovered, safely preserved within the library, which is located just a block away from our restoration job site.

What a gift to have in our community - a great Texas Road trip indeed. Add it to the list of cool things to experience in Beaumont’s downtown historic district.

Step into the most magical library ever

Thank you to Rotary Club of Beaumont for inviting Lee Ann Nicholson Fuselier to speak to their members today about the progress being made at The Gilbert Building and how we hope it will inspire others to help Rebuild, Restore, and Renew our community.

“Meet me at the Gilbert - Spring 2027!!!”

Wouldn’t it be cool to have a boutique hotel in downtown Beaumont that echoed the architecture, attitude, and vibrancy of Beaumont’s Spindletop Oil Boom days?

The future tenants of the Gilbert Building would LOVE to have a hotel as a downtown historic district neighbor.

Rebuild-Restore-Renew

What if the turnaround of our community doesn’t begin with a multimillion-dollar project?

What if it begins with us?

Are we overlooking hundreds of small, simple ways to Rebuild, Restore, and Renew because we’re so focused on chasing the big wins?

We say we need more restaurants, shops, and things to do—but are we consistently supporting the ones already here?

We complain about roads, neighborhoods, and how our city looks—but are we doing our part to keep it clean, cared for, and welcoming?

Big goals matter. But momentum is built one visible victory at a time.

Mow the grass. Pull the weeds. Pick up the trash. Paint the front door. Shop local. Eat local. Show up. Encourage the person fixing up a building, opening a business, planting flowers, cleaning a lot, or simply trying to make their corner of the community better.

Pride is contagious. So is neglect.

Let’s stop waiting for someone else to create the community we want.

Let’s claim the easy victories.

Let’s make improvement visible.

Let’s give people something worth believing in—and then build on it.

Here’s the challenge: What is ONE small thing you can do this week to make your community better?

Drop it in the comments. Better yet—do it, take a picture, and tag someone to keep the momentum going.

The spirit of downtown Beaumont is reawakening.

The street featured on this historic postcard was once filled with commerce, conversation, ambition, and people who believed in the future of our city. While some of these historic buildings have already been lost to time and demolition, there is a growing movement working to preserve what still remains and restore new life to downtown Beaumont.

Those now occupying businesses along these same streets are helping write Beaumont’s next chapter every single day. Businesses and organizations like Riverside Grille, Chuck's Sandwich Shop, The Loft Hair Studio, Estella Boutique, Two Magnolias Cafe and Catering, Art Museum of Southeast Texas, Texas Energy Museum, Tyrrell Historical Library, Beaumont Main Street, Chica & Associates, Orgain Bell & Tucker LLP, 434 Fannin, Alliance Engineers & Project Consultants, LLC, Hearsay TX, Come Alive Coffee House and others are creating energy, culture, jobs, and renewed momentum in the heart of our community.

At Gilbert Building Partnership, we believe historic preservation is about more than saving old buildings. It is about restoring pride, rebuilding confidence, and inspiring future generations to once again dream about what downtown Beaumont can become.

Join the movement.
Shop. Dine. Visit. Dream and invest in Downtown Beaumont - or simply support those who do.

Because every great downtown revival begins with people willing to believe its best days are still ahead.

Rebuild. Restore. Renew.
