One mistake I see people make when planning their strength sessions is just focusing on too much.
Most people just do what they know or what they see in the gym. The issue is that as a BJJ or general athlete, we don’t need to train daily like a bodybuilder or power lifter. It’s not wrong and if you enjoy these styles of programs then get after it. But for most of us, a balanced program performed even just 2 days/week can give you great progress! This is super important when you’re also training BJJ 3-5 days/week.
🔸 June 10th at CTA Portland come learn more about building a balanced training program to supplement your BJJ along with injury management, mobility training and recovery strategies!

Injuries are unfortunately a common occurrence when training BJJ and other combat sports. Those who are injured are often sidelined and struggle to get back to full training or competition. Far too often, these injuries also lead to members of our community quitting the sport altogether.
As a physical therapist and someone that’s trained consistently over the last decade, this is where I can help!
Mark your calendars and come join me June 10th to learn how you can:
🔸Improve your joint health and mobility to be more resilient on the mats
🔸Manage injuries to safely and efficiently get back to full training and competing
🔸Build a balanced strength & conditioning program to complement your BJJ
🔸Maximize recovery between sessions
🔸Plan to continue enjoying BJJ for many years to come

One thing I enjoy about competing in BJJ is that it helps me set goals and break down my training into chunks. Chunks of time where I have specific goals to work towards. Then afterwards I get to evaluate how my preparation played into my performance and plan for the next one.
The long term goal with my BJJ training is skill acquisition and refinement. Competing will always point out areas I need to keep working on for my game and helps me stay focused during those weeks or months leading up to comp day.
These chunks of time also let me break down my physical training as I focus on maintaining my own joint health, injury mitigation or recovery while also building flexibility, mobility, strength, and endurance to help me in my sport. These are focus points that you should consider for any sport or activity that you enjoy.
A few days out from my recent tournament and focusing on recovery with some lower intensity endurance, joint specific mobility training (with my Kinstretch class) and reviewing the specifics of my BJJ performance.
Hopefully everyone enjoyed the tournament this weekend, if you need help managing these goals and coming up with specific ways to improve your performance before your next competition or event, send me a message!!
