IBA
IBA is a 50 year old mergers & acquisitions firm specializing in the sale of privately held companies and family businesses in Washington & Oregon.
IBA is also a commercial real estate firm with the ability to comprehensively represent both assets. IBA (International Business Associates) is an approximately fifty year old mergers & acquisitions firm specializing in the sale of privately held companies & family owned businesses in the Pacific Northwest states of Washington, Oregon, and Alaska. In addition, as consultants we have successfully f
Roger Hammond, a former business broker on the IBA team, recently sat at the World Series of Poker (Truth be told it was not his first time). He left with five figures of winnings. To be successful in poker, you need the appropriate bankroll to sit at the table and the knowledge, experience, and skill to win pots. In the acquisition of a business, a buyer also needs the necessary capital to win. Capital comes in the form of both the liquid assets under direct control that can be injected into a transaction and the additional amount that can be obtained from a lender, investors, and/or the seller to cobble together the financial elements required to buy a business. Oliver Kotelnikov, a senior M&A intermediary at IBA, also has played hands at the WSOP. He also recently hosted a podcast where he interviewed Carrie Callaway Cardy of KeyBank related to how to successfully secure the money necessary to purchase a privately held company, family business, and potentially their owner-occupied real estate (https://youtu.be/qJPYnISDiDM?si=-hHrWMmKNksZ3GDj). Carrie is one of the most experienced, knowledgeable SBA bankers serving the Pacific Northwest. She is welcome in any IBA facilitated deal. Two takeaways from the interview. Don't pursue a loan, if you do not have the necessary executive experience to run a business in the industry. #2, interview multiple banks when selecting a lender, as different lenders will have different credit approval processes and loan appetites. I will add all business owners should interview several business brokers before selecting one to sell their company. Knowledge, experience, and skill vary greatly between business brokers. IBA welcomes the opportunity to interview for any sell side representation project. We do not ask for compensation until project completion, so on that metric alone there is no downside to considering IBA.

Attributes of the economy of IBA's primary service area of the Pacific Northwest are robust alcohol component agricultural production, grapes (Washington & Oregon are in the top 4 in America) and hops (Washington, Oregon, & Idaho are the top 3 in the USA) and domestically & internationally recognized wine, beer, and spirit brands. IBA as a M&A firm licensed regionally to sell commercial real estate has frequently been the firm of choice to facilitate the sale of wineries, distilleries, and breweries. Unfortunately, recently this space has seen some turbulence. The good news is that things appear to be stabilizing (https://www.wswa.org/news/sipsourcer-june-blog-has-beverage-alcohol-market-found-its-floor). Prudent business is to identify opportunities before they are obvious. Early investors and entrepreneurship decisions often reap the largest rewards. If you are thinking about selling your alcohol manufacturing company, potentially with the associated real estate, in 2026, 2027, or 2030, IBA's experienced team serving this sector would welcome the opportunity to meet with you to learn about your company, exit strategy objectives, and provide an overview of our client services. All conversations with IBA are held in strict confidence.

Happy to share excellent news about the manufacturing sector of the economy (https://www.ismworld.org/supply-management-news-and-reports/reports/ism-pmi-reports/pmi/july/)
Susan Spence, MBA, Chair of the Institute for Supply Management® (ISM®) Manufacturing Business Survey Committee reported “In July, U.S. manufacturing activity remained in expansion territory, growing at its fastest rate in more than four years. Of the five subindexes that make up the PMI®, four grew faster compared to the previous month; the exception was the Inventories Index, which was down just 0.2 percentage point.
IBA has been successfully selling manufacturing companies for entrepreneurs in Oregon & Washington since 1975. If you are considering a sale of your privately held company or family business in 2026, 2027, or 2030, a member of our manufacturing sector transaction team would welcome the opportunity to meet with you in person, learn about your company, exit strategy objectives, and provide an overview of our professional services. All conversations with IBA are held in strict confidence. IBA operates on paid on performance business model where we only seek compensation from clients upon successful completion of a project.
THESIS DEFENDED. I had the recent experience of being in the “hot seat” on Erik Berglund’s I Have Some Questions podcast (https://youtu.be/-3UZSKsDwaI?si=sZWvvTjtxgxAp-VV). I believe all individuals/companies seeking compensation should be comfortable having their knowledge, experience, strategies/techniques, and past performance scrutinized by potential clients and their surrogates before payment is made for services. In the interview, Erik asks the hard questions including, “What qualifications should a business sale intermediary have and how do I select one to sell my company”. As always, I, and my colleagues at IBA, welcome any and all questions. The best decisions are made from a foundation of knowledge. The successful sale of a privately held company or family business requires knowledge, experience, skill, and best practices. Thank you Erik for the opportunity to be on your podcast. If you are an entrepreneur thinking about selling a business in the Pacific Northwest, IBA would welcome the opportunity to meet with you to learn about company, exit strategy objectives, and provide an overview of our services. All communication with IBA is held in strict confidence.

Over Negotiation Can Jeopardize Success in a Business Purchase & Sale Transaction - IBA Business Brokers The classic, legal definition of “Fair Market Value” in a business purchase & sale transaction is the value as determined by the marketplace (or objective purchasers) rather than as determined by a subjective individual. This is what an informed and unpressured buyer would pay to an informed, un...
We all have paths not taken in our lives. One of mine was not moving to Manhattan and taking a job on Wall Street after graduating from McCombs at the University of Texas. Academically, I found areas of study like attempting to predict interest rate futures stimulating. My knowledge of the world of investments has benefited me as a M&A business intermediary, it has also made my firm, IBA, a valued collaborative partner for wealth managers attempting to help clients transition business & real estate assets to passively managed investments to support retirement, legacy, and philanthropic interests. I was recently honored to be asked to be a guest by Kirk Chisholm on his Money Tree Investing Podcast (https://open.spotify.com/episode/7BmFtgEdq04FG6CegG5Xkb?si=IfRkEiSbRE2wQBQTL51azA). I believe the conversation is an interesting listen during windshield time, on a flight, or walking the dog. Both of us are passionate about athletics. At one portion, we, as proponents for entrepreneurship and capitalism, have a discussion about the impact private equity is having on youth athletics. I encourage listeners to stay on after I depart from the program and listen to Kirk’s conversation with Marc Walton. They have a good conversation about the benefits and challenges of being an entrepreneur, including buying a business or franchise as an entry point. IBA has been successfully selling businesses for 51 years and has a franchise brokerage division with a market leading level of knowledge & experience to support entrepreneurs.
