MS Simplicity
Melissa is a Professional Organizer and a Senior Move Manager helping Seniors with their next move. Filling a life of memories and not of things!
Melissa is a Productivity Consultant living in Fargo, North Dakota doing her best of living a life full of adventure. Q: If I decide to hire you, what are some things that I should keep in mind? A: Here are a few tips to help you:
1.Take time off: Take a morning or afternoon off from work to work with the organizer on the project.
2.Distraction free zone: Make sure all distractions are gone….kids and hubby out of the house, phone and computer turned off.
3.Short blocks of time: Depending on the project, hire the organizer for just a few hours. See if the relationship works for you. This way you don’t need to worry about a long term financial commitment with someone who you may not gel with.
4. Biggest problem area: Pick the area of your home that bothers you the most and start there.
5.Don't touch it: Do not clean the area that you want help with. The organizer needs to see your habits to know how the clutter got there and where it tends to go in the area. We need to understand why you accumulate, and this helps us solve the puzzle.
6.Pictures: Take before and after pictures. Many people are afraid to do this, but when we are done with the project they often say….."I wish we would have taken a photo". What the photo does for you is to remind you of how hard we worked to get the project done…plus we maybe even had some fun along the way.

✨ Save the Date... For Yourself ✨
Calling all Seattle women who love a good adventure (and an even better excuse to shop small)!
I’m putting together a weekday adventure day this November exploring some of Seattle’s most unique local shops and creatives! The perfect chance to knock out some holiday gift shopping while supporting locally owned businesses. Along the way, you’ll stop for at least three hands-on activities, creating something beautiful to keep or gift yourself. And yes... there will be a few surprises too. 👀
Think curated boutiques, artisan finds, and plenty of creative magic, all wrapped up in one memorable day.
This is a “gathering interest” post before I lock in a date, so if discovering hidden gems, checking names off your holiday list, and making something with your own two hands sounds like your kind of day, drop a comment or shoot me a message!

My favorite French Pharmacy products are over on my page on Instagram. There I break down why these products are great for women over 50! I have tried probably 100 products and these are the ones I will buy over and over again!

Big news, friends! ✨
After 20+ years helping families simplify their homes and their moves, I’m thrilled to introduce something new: Traveling With Simplicity.
As some of you know, I’m also a registered travel agent, and I’ve spent the last few years dreaming up something special: small-group, curated adventure trips designed just for women.
Think the kind of trip where every detail is handled, every stop is meaningful, and every fellow traveler becomes a friend by day two.
Follow along on our brand-new Instagram _with_simplicity for behind-the-scenes planning, destination inspiration, and a first look at our flagship trip (hint: it involves châteaux, ch*****ne, and the Loire Valley 🥂).
Same values you know from Moving With Simplicity, thoughtful, personal, detail-obsessed, now applied to travel.
Can’t wait to share this next chapter with you. 💛
Where would you want to go?

I am an avid reader. I try to curate what I read based on others five star reviews. Life is short and I only want to read the good stuff. Below is the link to my Substack. I also write about aging parents and how to navigate the downsizing of a life well lived!

Hi, I’m Melissa. 👋
I’ve been a little quiet lately, mostly because I’ve been busy collecting memories over things on an extended trip through Europe. (Paris and London on the list? ✅ Obviously.)
But I’m back, and it felt like a good time to reintroduce myself, because Moving With Simplicity is so much more than a moving company.
I’m a Senior Move Manager based in the Pacific Northwest, but trained in the Midwest of North Dakota and Fargo!
I help older adults and their families navigate one of life’s most emotional transitions: leaving a home that holds decades of living.
I show up with:
💛 Peonies-level care (okay, not literally, but close)
🎨 A creative eye for making new spaces feel like home
🧭 Real expertise in accessibility, organization, and the emotional side of downsizing
✈️ And a deep belief that every new chapter deserves a beautiful beginning
If you or someone you love is facing a move, whether it’s into a senior community, a smaller home, or something in between, I’d love to help.
Drop a hello in the comments, send me a message, or just like this post so I know you’re out there. 💕
I’m so glad to be back.

Something unexpected and genuinely moving happened recently.
Moving with Simplicity has been nominated for Best in the PNW by The Seattle Times, in not one, not two, but three categories: Home Organizers, Moving Services, and Woman-Owned Business.
I’ve spent years walking alongside people through some of the most emotionally complex transitions of their lives. Helping someone leave a home they’ve lived in for 40 years isn’t just logistics, it’s an honor. And to have that work recognized by this community? I’m still a little speechless, and if you know me, you know how rare that is!
This nomination didn’t come from a marketing campaign. It came from people who trusted me with something tender and personal. That means everything.
If Moving with Simplicity has touched your life, or the life of someone you love, I’d be so grateful for your vote. The link is in the comments. 🩵
And whether you vote or not, thank you. For trusting me. For referring me. For cheering me on. This work only exists because of you.
Anyone, anywhere can vote ❤️

Even organizers need to organize themselves. ✨
I spent today working on my own bathroom, a space I’d honestly been avoiding for months. Limited storage, lots of products, neglected systems.
The process was the same as it is for every client I work with:
1️⃣ Remove everything
2️⃣ Discard what no longer serves you
3️⃣ Deep clean
4️⃣ Reimagine the space
The result? A bathroom that finally feels calm. Candles lit, everything in its place.
No matter how small the space, there’s always a better version of it waiting on the other side of the work.
💬 What space have you been avoiding? Drop it below!

Tell me I’m not alone… 🖤😂 (too many black clothes!)
I spent the afternoon prepping for a presentation I’m giving Wednesday at The Bellettini in Bellevue, WA, and this slide made me stop and laugh at myself.
Because honestly? Most of us are guilty of it.
But here’s what I want every client to know BEFORE they start packing:
👉 Your closet is the #1 place to begin, not the night before the movers arrive.
When we start early, magic happens:
✔️ You find things you forgot you owned (hello, long lost favorites!)
✔️ You stop moving things you don’t actually love
✔️ Packing becomes faster and WAY less stressful
✔️ You arrive in your new home feeling fresh, not buried
The move itself is just one day.
The preparation is everything.
That’s why I start these conversations early, because a smooth transition isn’t just about boxes. It’s about helping you feel confident and ready for what’s next.
💬 Drop a 🖤 below if your closet is basically a black hole, I want to know I’m in good company!

This week on the blog: the non-obvious signs your aging parent may be struggling at home.
Not the dramatic ones, the quiet ones.
A darker house than usual. Repeating the same story twice in one visit. Withdrawing from friends without explanation.
These are the things families often notice but explain away, until things are harder than they needed to be.
At Moving With Simplicity, we work with families every day who are navigating exactly this moment. If you’re starting to see the signs and aren’t sure what the next step looks like, we’re here to help.
