Thirty years.

That's how much shorter a life can be without stable housing.

Almost two years ago, The Way Station Health & Hygiene Center opened with the intention of closing that gap. Showers, laundry, walk-in medical and mental health care, and respite beds for people recovering from a medical event, all in one place, aimed at interrupting the cycles that shorten lives.

Now, the site is serving more than 350 people experiencing homelessness every month.

This (October 10), PeaceHealth St. Joseph is kicking off a community-wide giving campaign with a $30,000 community benefit grant in support of The Way Station Health & Hygiene program, and you can pitch in too!

Join us with a monthly gift to The Way Station and help provide health, hope, and dignity for our unhoused neighbors.

This World Homeless Day, October 10, PeaceHealth is kicking off a community-wide giving campaign with a $30,000 community benefit grant in support of The Way Station Health & Hygiene program.

Thanks to United Way of Whatcom County, Unity Care NW is carrying Dolly’s legacy forward as an official Imagination Library site, helping to deliver free, age-appropriate books to kids under 5.

Families can sign up in our lobbies for a monthly delivery of stories to little hands across the county.

The Way Station Health & Hygiene Center has been there for people experiencing homelessness in more ways than one. The trust built between the center's staff and the people it serves has given visitors the opportunity to take a hot shower, get connected to stable housing, and be seen for life-changing medical care — all while waiting for their clothes to dry.

Behind The Way Station's Intake Desk - WhatcomTalk The Way Station opened in late 2024 after seven years of planning and pandemic-related delays. This one-of-a-kind facility is the result of a collaboration between local community health center Unity Care NW, nonprofit community action agency Opportunity Council, PeaceHealth, and Whatcom County.

Thanks to everyone who donated children’s books during Community Health Center Week!

Because of these generous donations, we brought in nearly 450 books that will go home with kids to cherish for years to come.

Shout out to our partners at Reach Out and Read for helping to support literacy at a young age.

Our staff had a pizza party during National Community Health Center Week thanks to Whatcom Community Foundation.

Their Health and Wellness grants help nonprofit staff enjoy a positive work environment and complimentary slices from local food truck brought smiles to a lot of faces at Unity Care NW.
