A stormy, end of June weekend at Dexter Reservoir in Oregon didn't dampen the spirits of 5 Whatcom MASTERS who made the adventure to NW Regionals and brought home Silver (Mixed 2x) and Bronze (Womens 4x) medals as well as hardware for a composite team with MillTown (Gold - Mens 2x). We love taking the show on the road, we love sharing the boat with other teams and the Medals just broaden the smiles.

The Whatcom Rowing MASTERS took their rowing prowess on the road, north of the border to Cascadia Regional Regatta at Burnaby Lake in BC - which drew over 900 entries from as far East as Ottawa and as far south as California. WRA brought home 2 silver (Mixed 4x, Mens 2x) and bronze (Mixed 2x). We are super proud of our Learn to Row graduates who raced a novice 4x with great determination.

Meet the Boat: Noah Schmidt & Chris Simeur Men's U17 2x | 2026 Youth Nationals

Noah Schmidt | Bow
16-year-old sophomore at Squalicum High School. When he's not commanding the bow seat of the double, Noah can usually be found skiing, whether that's carving through snow or enjoying glassy water behind a boat. He's also a varsity tennis player and serves as 1st Trombone in the Squalicum band.

Chris Simeur | Stroke
15 years old and a Pacific Northwest native. Chris discovered rowing just one year ago after recovering from an ACL injury that interrupted his mountain biking career. Before rowing, he earned a USAC National Championship title at age 12.

When he's not setting the rhythm for the double, Chris enjoys mountain biking, skiing, hiking, music production, and videography. He's also the co-creator of the "Diving In Daily" Instagram account, which has grown to more than 2,500 followers.

Why They're Excited
Noah and Chris have combined athleticism, determination, and a love of adventure to earn their spot at Youth Nationals. They'll be representing Whatcom Rowing in the Men's U17 Double and are ready to take on the country's best.

There's a lot more to ROWERS than just Rowing. Rowers on Wheels - 1st Annual perhaps - Put the Fun into Fundraising. A stellar event in the Fall of 2025 auctioned off action-packed events to raise funds for Whatcom Rowing. Rowers on Wheels set out in 2 groups to expore the county by land. The rowers - from teens to 70+ years old - hit the pavement on a sunny, windy, rainy, Sunday morning on the county roads. Thanks to the dynamic Masters Rowers whose creativity and committment to Whatcom Rowing is raising funds and FUN!

National Learn to Row day welcomed a ton of people to Bob Diehl Boathouse. On the water, on the ergs - there's a seat for you. Check out whatcomrowing.org to sign up for Masters or Youth Summer Learn to Row - no better place than evenings on Lake Whatcom for Masters - join for the Fun! Fitness! Friendships! Once again we thank LFS Marine for the Team tent - a little sun and a little rain - perfect tent weather too.
