Whatcom Artist Studio Tour
The Whatcom Artist Studio Tour is a free, self-guided adventure through artists’ working studios in Whatcom County. All the info at www.studiotour.net
Meet the makers, see creativity in action, and collect original works of art straight from the source. Our History
The Whatcom Artist Studio Tour was founded in 1995 to bring the public into artists' working studios for a two weekend self-guided tour and sale. The Studio Tour offers visitors insight into the creative process, work-life and work-environment of area artists and provides an opportunity for people to purchase original works directly from their makers. The Whatcom Artist Studio Tour began with ten artists and has grown to be a well orchestrated tour featuring over 40 artists working in more than a dozen different media, and featuring 41 studios scattered throughout Bellingham and Whatcom County. The tour includes both emerging and established artists in Whatcom County. Each studio features the work of the primary artist, and some may include additional artists as well, providing a unique and compelling variety of artwork. It's an opportunity to buy work from local artists, to find new sources of inspiration, to share and to learn. And, it's two weekends of exploring Bellingham, Whatcom County and artists' workspaces!

"Art, for me is like mental gymnastics, it's an exercise for my brain. Art challenges me and humbles my pride all at the same time. With all of my artistic abilities, I strive to create something great in each piece. Sometimes I succeed, and sometimes I learn, both times are what I live for. I'm as fascinated with the classical techniques and executions as I am with the surreal world of today.
My motto in life is "sacrifice everything for the Art", please enjoy the show."

May works to evoke a sense of light, transparency, reflection, and atmosphere while still retaining the primacy of opaque paint-laden gestures on wood. She draws inspiration from a wide variety of sources, including Richard Diebenkorn, Peter Doig, John Cole, Thomas Wood, Hart James, Emily Carr, J. M. W. Turner, and Lucian Freud.
She paints in high quality Williamsburg oil paint on birch panels prepared with shellac rather than gesso. This allows the warmth of the wood to show through in underworked areas.

"I work in the medium of kilnformed glass. Using glass in its varied forms from cut to crushed to powdered I design and manipulate the form, shape, color and texture of the glass using the high heat of the kiln. Inspired by nature, color, culture, and my own Philippine Indigenous heritage I create art glass for the home, garden, gallery and personal adornment."

"We hand turn wooden bowls on the lathe in classic, reserved shapes to allow the natural beauty of the wood to be the major design element. Our bowls and plates are 10“ to 4 feet in diameter. We use only rescued wood from trees taken down for other reasons. All the pieces are cut from one block of wood: we do not laminate. Our focus is to make beautiful pieces that are functional enough for daily use."
