Choosing the correct mailbox post is an important part of installing a mailbox.  
 
The in-ground post is designed to be buried and secured in concrete, while the surface-mount post bolts directly to an existing concrete pad. Because of this, the surface-mount version is shorter. 
 
Before ordering, make sure you select the post that matches your installation. 
 
Always refer to current USPS mailbox installation guidelines. The bottom of the mailbox OR point of mail entry should measure 41–45” inches above the road surface.  
 
A little planning before installation can save you from ordering the wrong post or having to reposition the mailbox later.
