Make.Shift Art Space empowers, supports, and creates opportunities for local artists and musicians. Make.Shift is a non-profit art space.

Our mission is to engage the community by providing all-ages spaces for art and music in Whatcom and Skagit Counties. Make.Shift started in 2008 with the modest goal of being a support network for local bands. Now we run an all-ages art gallery and music venue, affordable art studios and band practice spaces, and a low-power community radio station, KZAX 94.9 FM.

***SHOW BOOKING is done exclusively via email: [email protected]

Surprise! Make.Shift is collaborating with The Off Beat in Portland! If you're down south, you should go support The Off Beat and everything they do! And, you'll see some really cool acts. Juno Driver, IX of Swords, Sceneric, Saoirse Dream, and Surgery Season all take the stage to knock your socks off. Tickets are online right now!

Friends of Noise has been making a space for all ages audiences since it's inception and before even obtaining their own venue space, building arts community for those who rely on it most (in fact, our current event manager went to a bunch of their shows before working at Make.Shift when living in the Portland area - it might be a part of the origin of beginning to do event production or something who knows). We are very lucky to be working with them and sending Sceneric to their first Portland show as a part of that. Thank you Friends of Noise! You rock!
This show is NOT LOCATED IN BELLINGHAM.

Make.Shift Art Space presents our First Annual Substrate Gallery Gala! Our goal is to annually raise funds to repair, improve and update our music and art studios while uplifting and celebrating our arts community!

This year's substrate: Clipboards! Make.Shift will provide artists with clipboards with a professionally primed surface for free! Artists will receive a Make.Shift gift bag filled with show passes, merch and more! Artists will also be added to our digital artist registry and supporter wall in the building.

Artwork is due in person by Wednesday, September 2nd. The Opening reception and gala are Friday, September 4th, 5pm-9pm.
β—‹ 5pm official show opening
β—‹ 7pm community forum Q&A in the venue.
β—‹ More TBA!

100% of sales support Make.Shift Facilities projects that currently include
reconstruction of 2 practice spaces, lighting and electrical upgrades and the construction of a permanent DJ booth in the venue!
In the spring of 2026 our building took on unprecedented flooding causing multiple practice spaces unusable. While we have received a ton of support from the building owners to repair the outer structure we are solely responsible for repair and maintenance within the building. Like many community institutions we have been financially impacted by the drastic funding cuts to the arts leading us to ask our community to help build the Make.Shift they want to see now and
in the future.

For over sixteen years the lower levels of 306 flora street have seen the footsteps of thousands of musicians, artists and spectators. Yellowed lights of years past flicker upon worn cement floors, torn walls lead the way to a den of active art and music studios. With remembrance of the community built Make.Shift Art Space and their families, we say now is the time to breathe renewed life into the interior of Make.Shift so that the community that we serve can seed their
independent artistic goals into full grown sustainable careers.

Make.Shift will be closed tomorrow, Saturday July 25th, for various reasons! Our Executive Director is out playing Timber Fest with Ya tseen this weekend (so sick and cool) and our venue team is slinging vintage and helping at a different event (pretty sick and cool too).
Real talk: this is how Make.Shift staff stays part of the community outside of being staff members at a community org. It's important to all of us to continue to make our art, start our small business, and uplift other DIY spaces. We appreciate your understanding for the inconvenience if you had planned to stop by tomorrow!
We'll be open next week for regular gallery hours as well as the Gripping Beasts release show on July 31st, and Bellingham Punk and Metal Fest on August 1st and 2nd. We are also open till 6pm today, July 24th! Come by today and get to the gig next weekend!
