Developmental Trauma Training Institute
We equip professionals with the skills to recognize and treat trauma.
We envision a world where children, adults, families & communities can access effective treatment and support healing from Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE’s) and truly thrive.
Some of the most meaningful shifts in therapy happen when we learn to notice more—not do more.
Brainspotting Phase 2 is designed for clinicians who are ready to deepen their practice beyond the foundations of Phase 1. Together, we’ll explore advanced Brainspotting approaches while strengthening the clinical presence, flexibility, and responsiveness that support work with trauma, dissociation, and nervous system activation.
Over three days, you’ll integrate:
• Z-Axis & Vergence Therapy
• Rolling Brainspotting
• One-Eye Brainspotting
• Inside/Outside Window integration
• Advanced Resource Model for complex trauma and dissociation
📅 August 28–30, 2026
📍 Bend, Oregon
When the training day ends, Bend offers space to continue integrating what you’ve learned. If you have time, take a walk along the Deschutes River, enjoy dinner downtown, or venture out to Steelhead Falls—a beautiful canyon hike where the sound of rushing water and Central Oregon’s wide-open landscape invite reflection and renewal.
✨ This is our final Brainspotting training of the season.
If you’ve completed Phase 1, we’d love to have you join us for three days of learning, connection, and integration.

Who walks into the room with you?
Live from the Healing Together Conference in Milwaukee, Gene Tagaban of the Native Wellness Institute joins Steve Sawyer for a meaningful conversation about what we carry into relationship, healing spaces, and clinical work.
Gene reflects on how our ancestors, lived experiences, developmental trauma, and generational trauma can all be present with us. Rather than viewing trauma as the whole story, this conversation invites a broader understanding of how resilience, cultural connection, inherited wisdom, and our capacity for healing also walk alongside us.
Gene also shares that our spirit checks out a space before we fully enter it—an understanding that parallels how the nervous system continually perceives cues of safety, threat, connection, and belonging.
Together, Gene and Steve explore how healing can include building relationship with all that we carry while recognizing the resilience, strengths, and ancestral wisdom that have supported us across generations.

Brainspotting Phase 2 expands the clinician’s ability to recognize and respond to the complexity of trauma held within the nervous system.
Building on the foundations of Phase 1, this advanced training explores additional Brainspotting frames, including One-Eye Brainspotting, Z-Axis work, Rolling Brainspotting, and advanced resource approaches. These methods offer clinicians greater flexibility when working with developmental trauma, attachment disruption, dissociation, chronic dysregulation, and other complex clinical presentations.
The training also invites a deeper understanding of how activation, regulation, relational attunement, and the client’s physiological experience shape the therapeutic process.
Through clinical teaching, live demonstrations, experiential practice, and consultation, participants will strengthen their ability to follow the client’s system with greater precision while allowing the work to unfold at a pace that supports meaningful processing and integration.
Join Steve Sawyer and Jeff Ryan for Brainspotting Phase 2 in Bloomington, Minnesota, September 25–27, 2026.

Today, we celebrate Steve and the care, wisdom, and humanity he brings to his work and to the communities he serves. His commitment to creating more relational, responsive, and compassionate approaches to healing continues to shape DTTI and reach helping professionals around the world.
Please join us in wishing Steve a very happy birthday and a meaningful year ahead!
Today’s FB Live explores the physical manifestation of the bracing response—an often under-addressed part of how trauma can be held within muscles and myofascial tissue.
Steve Sawyer draws from the work of renowned trauma neurologist Dr. Robert Scaer, author of The Body Bears the Burden, to examine the role muscles can play in trauma responses and recovery.
Steve also shares from his own experience recovering from severe accidents, including how muscle-release practices supported him in recognizing areas of activation, bringing breath toward restricted places, and allowing space for release.
This conversation invites us to consider how the muscular system can carry protective responses long after an experience has ended—and how greater awareness can become part of the healing process.
A beautiful deep dive into healing childhood and generational trauma physiology 🌟

The Developmental Trauma Training Institute (DTTI) Digging Roots Advanced Clinical Immersion was a training filled with connection, integration, and a deeper understanding of how our earliest experiences continue to shape us.
Together, we explored childhood physiology and the process of recovering the highest adult self—the part of us capable of holding our experiences with greater awareness, compassion, and choice.
This work invited us to consider:
• Understanding inner child physiology and supporting healing without asking our adult self to disappear• Moving beyond the concept of parts into integration-focused work grounded in childhood physiology• Re-membering—bringing the story and the self fully back together• Understanding the six forms of childhood dysregulation and how early physiological experiences can remain alive in the present• Witnessing the release of in utero and generational chains of shame and trauma we no longer need to carry• Creating space for the highest adult self to emerge• Integrating what was once fragmented, disconnected, or held alone
Through five live demonstrations, participants witnessed the possibilities of Digging Roots work reaching into some of the earliest moments of life and supporting meaningful integration.
DTTI offers our deepest gratitude to each person who brought their courage and vulnerability into the demonstrations. Your willingness to be seen allowed the entire training community to learn alongside you.
This was also DTTI’s first hybrid training, and we are incredibly grateful to Erica Hough for supporting our online participants and helping us create a more connected virtual experience as Digging Roots 2.0 and the Advanced Clinical Immersion transition into hybrid formats.
A huge thank-you to Kairos Counseling and Ruthie Basilea for welcoming us and hosting the training space.
We are leaving this experience with deep appreciation for everyone who helped make the training possible—and for the shared humanity that continues to shape the work of DTTI.
