🚛 U.S. TRUCKING INDUSTRY DIGEST

The freight market is showing some signs of life, but higher fuel costs and heavier enforcement are keeping the pressure on drivers and carriers.

📈 Freight Market
Truckload capacity remains relatively tight. Tender rejections have stayed around 14%, well above recent-year levels, while spot rates remain elevated even after cooling from the Labor Day bump.

⛽ Diesel Is Still a Major Issue
Fuel prices have climbed sharply, putting pressure on carrier margins. Higher diesel costs are eating into some of the gains from stronger freight rates, making fuel efficiency and route planning especially important.

📋 Enforcement Is Active
A September 26 multi-state operation across South Carolina, North Carolina, Florida and Georgia resulted in 552 inspections, 78 drivers and 25 vehicles placed out of service. Twelve of the drivers were placed OOS for English Language Proficiency violations.

⚠️ Watch for Motus Scams
FMCSA is warning carriers about fake websites impersonating its new Motus registration system. The legitimate system is motus.dot.gov — be careful with emails and links asking you to update registration information.

📦 Capacity & Freight Flow
Peak-season activity is putting additional pressure on available capacity in some markets. Carriers are becoming more selective about the freight and lanes they take as operating costs remain high.
