Has AI changed your work yet?

Not someday. This year.

Some interpreters say nothing has changed. Some say the easy calls are drying up. Others say the jobs are still there, but the pace isn’t.

We went looking at what is actually happening. The federal jobs outlook for interpreters and translators was revised down from 3% to 2% growth, which is slower, but it is not a collapse.

A 2026 study found about 5% of AI translated discharge instructions carried an error that could cause serious harm.

Deaf viewers watching AI signing avatars have said they could not follow them.

The clearest change we found was not replacement. It was pace. At one large interpreting company, after an AI system took over scheduling, interpreters reported as little as 15 seconds between calls.

AI isn’t coming for your job. It might be coming for your breaks.
