Room In The Inn Berea is gearing up for our upcoming emergency winter shelter season, and our board is looking for a lead on a 12-passenger van, either to purchase or rent from January 1 to March 15, that we'd use to transport guests safely to and from the motel each night. We are thinking through some more permanent options. As you all know, in the past we have used several community-oriented solutions to address the transportation issue, but we don't want to continue to be a burden on the community when it comes to transportation.

If you know an individual, dealership, rental company, or organization that might be able to help (through a donation, a good deal, a lease arrangement, or even just pointing us in the right direction for a grant), we'd be so grateful to hear from you.

🏠Overnight Shelter Available!🏠

In partnership with the American Red Cross, our building at 110 South Second Street will be opened as an Overnight Shelter due to flooding across our community. Shelter is available for displaced individuals and families, or those at risk from flash flooding later tonight. Resource Navigators and Red Cross volunteers will be on-site to help community members work through this difficult time.

🕕Opening at 6:00PM on June 27th for overnight stay
1️⃣One night only - Resource Navigators and Red Cross representatives will help displaced families explore long-term arrangements.

Don't wait! More rain overnight will cause more flooding. The longer you wait to evacuate, the longer it will take first responders to reach you. Check on at-risk, elderly, or vulnerable neighbors so they can get to safety!

A huge thanks to many partners who are collaborating to see our community members taken care of: City of Richmond KY, Madison County KY, First Baptist Church of Richmond, Richmond House of Prayer, Encounter Church, all local first responder agencies, and numerous individual volunteers.

None of the work we do winter after winter happens without community support. None of it happens without YOU.

Room In The Inn Berea served 185 guests who are your neighbors. Our statistics are clear: 76% of them had lived in Madison County for more than 1 year. We want to break down the myth that these people are strangers. They're members of our community who needed a safe place to land in the freezing winter temperatures.

We're a little bit halfway through Kentucky Gives Day and every dollar is adding up. As of noon, we've raised $1,478 toward our $8,510 goal. That's 32 motel rooms funded.

To put $8,510 in perspective: just $46 provides one motel room for a neighbor with nowhere else to go. Last season, we provided 2,457 motel rooms across 75 nights of emergency shelter. That's 2,457 times a neighbor had a warm, safe place to sleep instead of facing the uncertainty of the coldest winter nights.

I won’t bother you until later tonight, but I wanted to share with you a reason to give between 5 and 6 PM today: the After-Work Boost Match is a one-to-one match on every online gift made during that hour. Give $50, we receive $50. Give $100, we receive $100. The match caps at $100 per gift, so that's the sweet spot, but every dollar above that still goes directly to RITI. To start off strong, we’re throwing it back to February when one of our incredible volunteers, Kim, organized a superbowl party for our guests! Kim has spearheaded many efforts to put meaningful touches into the meals served to guests and brought so much joy to RITI’s work!

We can’t do what we do without volunteers like Kim. And we can’t do what we do without donors like YOU!

ONE day left till ! Room In The Inn Berea has ONE central mission “to provide hospitality and emergency shelter to our unhoused neighbors in the winter months.”

For 8 years—through changing models, leadership, and new challenges every season—we have been united in this mission. And we couldn't do it without you. Together, we have fed guests, sheltered guests, and collaborated with countless volunteers and donors. In the early days, mattresses were moved from church to church and bedding washed every night of the season. In our most recent one, we even delivered food over iced parking lots.

For 8 years now, we have been dedicated to ensuring that none of our neighbors freeze to death in the winter months.

Our fundraising goal of $8,510 would cover one night of hotel rooms for 185 guests, which is the number of unique individuals we served during Season 8.
