A Summer at Fire & Fern 🌿🔥

Between artist residencies, community projects, teaching, welcoming an apprentice, installing a brand-new furnace, and spending a little extra time together as a family, the weeks have flown by. While we've been a little quieter online and we wanted to take a moment to share a few highlights from the summer so far.

✨ Jacob completed an artist residency at Hot Glass Alley in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he collaborated with six incredible artists while developing his Wizards series—a playful body of work inspired by the joy of making and the traditions of glassblowing. It was an inspiring opportunity to experiment, collaborate, and return home full of new ideas.

✨ We welcomed our first Berea College apprentice through the Folklife Apprenticeship program. Sharing the craft of glassblowing has always been about more than technique—it's about passing along the history, stories, and traditions that make this art form so meaningful.

✨ We had the privilege of hosting students from the Kentucky School for the Deaf, introducing them to the science, history, and artistry of glassmaking and getting the opportunity to work with an ASL interpreter.

✨ We had a great time with our Old Town partners hosting the first June Bug Festival, filling the evening with colorful tie-dye, a lively drum circle, laughter, and community.

✨ We were all-in for the Interdependence Art Parade this year! Lauren helped organize the Interdependence Art Camp & Residency and co-lead the kid's Moth Krewe in the parade. Jacob joined the clown Krewe and helped with creative components of the parade. Spending a week making art alongside our community was one of the highlights of the summer.

✨ Behind the scenes, one of our biggest milestones yet arrived—a brand-new glass furnace! This investment is a huge step forward for Fire & Fern and will expand what's possible in our studio for years to come. We can't wait to share what's ahead.

✨ And just for fun... we introduced our new Fire & Fern tie-dye logo shirts!

As a small family-run studio, every season has its own rhythm. This summer has become a time for behind-the-scenes projects, learning, community collaborations, and making memories with Jax while he's still little.

Whether you've taken a class, stopped by the gallery, or simply encouraged us along the way, thank you. Your support makes all of this possible!

We can't wait to share everything that we have planned for the fall- stay tuned!
