Piero Pelosi MFE27, built a strong theoretical foundation studying math, economics, and statistics in France. Then a coffee chat in Paris with the MFE program pointed him to his next step: coming to Berkeley to put theory into practice.
After his first-term courses, Piero spent 10 weeks at Bank of America researching systematic vol strategies. "Time series, volatility models, numerical methods: I used all of it on the desk," he says.
For Piero, the best part of the program is the people: professors who stay close to both the industry and their students, classmates he'll keep as friends for years, and alumni at top hedge funds and banks who are always willing to grant advice.

One might think most finance careers tend to move in a straight line. But Chandler Fang MFE17 took a harder, more interesting road to where he is today.
Like most graduates from the Berkeley MFE, Chandler landed a quant researcher role at JPMorgan, working on the kind of projects the MFE prepares you for. But he kept following the harder questions, first transitioning into JPMorgan's blockchain team, then pivoting to Ripple, and now to t54 labs, the emerging startup he founded to answer one that didn't have an answer yet: when AI agents start moving money on their own, who makes sure they can be trusted?

๐ For day 2 and 3 of the UC Berkeley Haas Master of Financial Engineering Chicago Career Trek, we took the cohort straight into the heart of the markets.
Our students rang the closing bell, went behind the scenes, connected with leadership in trading, research, and software, and saw firsthand what it takes to move from theory to the trading floor. We'd like to extend a huge thank you to our partners for opening their doors to MFE. Our students were able to experience once in a lifetime opportunities with your support.
Between every firm visit, networking opportunity, and live TV broadcast, treks give our MFE students the platform and discovery to shape where their quant careers go next. What a great way to end our second annual trek in the windy city! ๐
