The Homemade Cafe is Back. We are open again after being closed for just over a year. Stop by and try our home fries today!
Same corner of Dwight Way and Sacramento Street in Berkeley, same hours and the Same great breakfast you have loved for almost 50 years Homemade Cafe is your neighborhood diner, serving classic, delicious breakfast and lunch fare in Berkeley. Whatever we don’t make in-house, we source from other local companies. When we can’t make it Homemade, we do the next best thing — buy homegrown and support East Bay businesses! The Homemade Cafe was opened in 1979 when previous owners Norm and Janet trekked cross country to pursue their dreams of opening a local diner in sunny California. In 35 years we’ve grown, laughed, and cried with our neighborhood friends while carrying out our single mission – serving great food. In 2011, Norm and Janet sold the restaurant to long time employee Collin. Having grown up a Berkeley kid, Collin grew up eating at Homemade and eventually got his first job as a busboy at the cafe. After learning how the ropes by working in every position from dishwasher to kitchen manager (and a brief hiatus at NYU) Collin is active in all day to day activities and is committed to the restaurant and the neighborhood.

The Homemade Cafe in Berkeley, after almost 50 years of operating every day of the week has reduced its days of operation to Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
We will be Friday through Monday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
When often asked over the phone or by customers coming to dine,”Are you serving breakfast now?” I always responded “ all day, every day, since 1979”
That has now changed, in our older age we've come to a place where in order to stay viable we can only afford to be open on our busiest days during the week Friday Saturday Sunday and Monday. Due to many factors including the change in dining habits caused by the economy and post pandemic reliance on take out and delivery services, our weekdays are now slower than they've ever been before and we are not as young as we used to be. We have always prided ourselves on making our iconic breakfast and lunch dishes available every day for our community, friends and neighbors because breakfast is the most important meal and “Everybody Eats” at The Homemade Cafe! We love seeing your faces as much as possible! But we’ve seen them less and less on weekdays for a multitude of reasons. We are proud and happy to stay open and to continue to serve you our iconic Brunches
