🏟️ UCSF campus social workers are covering all of our bases as we continue pressuring UC to end the two-tier system that puts workers and patients at risk. We distributed zines and flyers at Giants Stadium last week to remind UCSF that while they may be sponsoring the ball game, they’re still short staffing their clinics!

After 9 months of inaction by UCSF to address safety concerns following the death of Alberto Rangel, social workers gathered with elected officials and community members for a “Hands Around Ward 86" vigil.
State Senator Scott Wiener, Assemblymember Catherine Stefani, and Assemblymember Matt Haney, every San Francisco City Supervisor and the San Francisco Labor Council signed a new letter to Chancellor Hawgood backing our demands. “The need for reforms is urgent,” they say.
Despite audits and fines against UCSF, little has changed. We're keeping up the pressure for real change. 🤞
🎯 Sonya is right: “They’re not stable enough to do the things that you and I do to get housing.”
UPTE calls for Housing First policies to reduce homelessness and relieve pressure on impacted emergency departments across California. Build more affordable housing now.

In San Francisco, hundreds of UPTE members came together from across California for our 2026 Statewide Workplace Representative Council. We emerged with more skills shared among us — and more motivation to continue winning on the issues that matter most to our 29,000 members. 💪

Paging UCLA: Next time check with us first 💪
UC fooled around and found out! 👊 Healthcare, research, and technical workers across University Health Services at UC Berkeley stood up to unilateral changes to working conditions that drastically reduced work/life balance and risked disrupting continuity of student care. By taking action, we reduced the onsite mandate from 9 to 7 weeks and secured financial compensation for impacted staff.

STOP THE LAYOFFS! Members of UPTE, AFSCME 3299 , and Teamsters Local 2010 stood in solidarity with workers who were laid off en masse at UCLA Health Venice Family Clinic centers. These workers—including two UPTE members who serve unhoused and food insecure patients—are critical for individual, family, and community health. We stand together.
