Beverly 400+

We’re one week away from the Battle of the Hannah & Nautilus, and 251 years ago, Thomas Stephens was having a very bad day.

On October 10, 1775, HMS Nautilus opened fire on Beverly from about half a mile offshore. Cannonballs struck around the town, including one that blasted through Stephens’s carriage house and destroyed his carriage.

Stephens’s response?

The 38-year-old ran down to the shore with his musket and started firing back at the British warship.

On October 10, the Concord Independent Battery will take position along Dane Street Beach and fire live cannons from the shoreline during the reenactment of the Battle of the Hannah & Nautilus.

This won’t be a quiet morning at the beach.

Come experience the boom of cannon fire across Beverly Harbor as we commemorate the events of October 10, 1775.

Meet some of the amazing vendors joining us at Bark in the Park this weekend! From treats to toys to local food favorites, these businesses help make Beverly’s dog community special. ❤️🦴

🐾 The Essex County Pet Pantry, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to helping keep pets with the people who love them. We provide essential pet supplies,such as food, litter, puppy pads, and other needed items, to individuals and families experiencing financial hardship or difficult circumstances. Our goal is to ease the financial burden of pet care, support families during challenging times, and help prevent beloved pets from having to be surrendered simply because their families are struggling.

🐾 Boards for Days is so excited to be part of this event! While they typically focus on charcuterie boards for humans, they are bringing their mobile cart to Bark in the Park for a special event! Build your own Char-poocherie board using their mobile cart. Customize your own board special to each of your pups’ needs!

🐾 Sweet Paws Rescue is a foster-based, volunteer-powered rescue located in Groveland, MA. Unlike a typical kennel shelter, each dog and cat that comes into their care goes directly to a foster home, ensuring they feel safe and supported in the time between when they’re found and when they get adopted. Stop by their table to learn more about fostering, volunteering, and their animals available for adoption!

🐾 L & E Photography offers budget friendly photography sessions with digital download images. On the day of the event they will have a Halloween back drop and offer edited digital download images of pups & their pawrents! Don’t miss this opportunity to capture the moment!

Before the Hannah ever carried cannons, she carried cargo.

By 1775, the Hannah was already about ten years old and had spent years sailing between Marblehead and the Caribbean as a merchant vessel.

Records of her voyages include cargo like cod, rum, cotton, Muscovado sugar, raisins, whale oil, lumber, and barrel-making materials.

Then the Revolution began, and this working merchant vessel was given a very different purpose.

We're excited to announce that Todd Rotondo will lead this year's Beverly Holiday Parade as we celebrate 400 years of Beverly!

Todd is a longtime Beverly resident, small-business owner, Ward 1 City Councilor, and President of Beverly 400+. For decades he has brought neighbors together and supported the organizations and traditions that make Beverly such a special place to call home.

Join us Sunday, November 29, when the parade steps off at 1:00 PM!
