Waring School
Waring School is a co-educational, academic college preparatory school for students in Middle and High School (grades 6-12).
Founded in 1972 by Philip and Josée Waring, the School offers interdisciplinary studies in Humanities; extensive music, art, and theatre options, challenging mathematics and science courses in state-of-the-art facilities, and a rich curriculum of French language and cultural exchange. Numerous student trips locally and abroad, as well as co-curricular offerings in service and leadership, provide opportunities for personal growth. Waring's small size and multi-age groupings enable the School to create an empowering network of relationships within the community. A caring and individualistic approach to each student supports his or her personal learning style, while maintaining demanding academic standards.

Where are they now?
We spotted Waring alum Sparhawk Mulder ’21 in Peace Corps Zambia’s promo for an upcoming documentary!
We always love seeing where life takes our alumni, and this time, it took us all the way to Zambia. Keep an eye out for Sparhawk right in the middle, getting braids. https://www.facebook.com/reel/1094864303130733

The Waring Way: Intellectual Curiosity
Curiosity can lead in all kinds of directions.
As Waring students choose their electives for the year ahead, they're choosing opportunities to explore interests beyond their everyday coursework. From ceramics and robotics to debate, journalism, music, art and more, electives create space to try something new, dive deeper into an existing passion, and see where curiosity leads.

How do meltwater rivers beneath ancient glaciers leave giant ridges on Earth today? Our Core (6th and 7th) students built their own glacier models in Dan Wellehan's Geology class to find out! Swipe to see them simulate meltwater tunnels and create mini glacial eskers in the classroom.

Where Are They Now?
What happens when the things you love don’t fit neatly into one subject?
For Waring alum Natalia Ellis '25, now studying Contemporary Dance at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (), the answer is to keep exploring the connections.
At Waring, Natalia co-taught Creative Writing, led a middle school math study group, co-captained three varsity sports and co-led the Feminist Club. Today, she’s bringing that same range of curiosity to her work in dance, exploring how literature and academics can inspire movement.
We love seeing the many directions a Waring education can take. https://www.uncsa.edu/students/natalia-ellis.aspx
What makes Waring different?
It’s the joy of “becoming.” Becoming more curious. More confident. More creative. More yourself. Our students are encouraged to explore what matters to them, learn alongside people who know and support them, and discover new possibilities along the way. Because education isn’t just about what you learn. It’s about who you become.

Where the school year really begins…
The annual Camping Trip brings our community together in the great outdoors to kick off our school year. This annual tradition allows our seniors, the Class of 2027, to step into their role as leaders. From leading groups and navigating the trails to fostering inclusive campfire discussions, our seniors are ready to guide, encourage, and welcome our newest students into the Wolfpack. Here’s to a year of adventure, growth, and new connections. Let the journey begin!
Jack '26 came to Waring for the robotics team, but along the way he discovered something he never saw coming: a genuine love for reading. Sometimes the most meaningful parts of an education aren't the ones you plan for; they’re the passions you stumble into along the way. Jack, headed to Bucknell this fall, shares how coming to Waring shifted his perspective from just knowing how to read to truly loving what he reads. Discover what makes a Waring education different.
