Round Turn Distilling

Round Turn is a small distillery located in a 150 year-old textile mill on the coast of Maine. Distilling is simple, just condensing vapor back to liquid.

A Round Turn is the most simple knot, one complete turn of a rope around an object. Despite its simplicity, it is immensely strong and effective, used to hold even great ships against a dock. But its strength relies on a person holding one end of the rope and applying tension, allowing the forces of friction and torque to work. But with a person applying their senses of smell and taste, this simple process can be harnessed to produce something complex and sublime. Located in a 150 year-old textile mill on the Saco River 5 miles from the Maine coast, Round Turn Distilling embodies the pragmatism and industriousness of its New England forebears. While the mill once used the waters of the river to power its massive looms, Round Turn uses steam to power its modern, steel and copper still. The still is itself an embodiment of tradition informed by innovation. Built in Etna, Maine, by Trident Stills, it blends the basic principles of the centuries-old pot-still with modern innovations and efficiencies. After all, tradition was once innovation in its time.

Happy distilling day!!! 🥳🥳🥳

We’re making the OG today!! Darren’s hands look like this so yours can … well … hold martinis or whatever you kids are drinking these days with our gin 🤪

Our distilling process starts early in the morning and runs for almost 14 hrs. Before we had two stills to run in tandem, Darren would have to distill one day, clean and refill the still the day after, then distill the second batch of botanicals the following day. That’s why we pay him the big bucks 🤑🤩

Each bucket of distillate is blended together into a tank, where it will later rest for 6 weeks before being proofed and bottled 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️

✨Aubrey Appreciation Post✨

Aubrey has been with us, here at Round Turn, for a little over 2 years now. You’ve come to know her as our Tuesday night bartender. You may also know her for her community tide pooling, Turning Tides Ocean Education LLC in Biddeford!

Aubrey was recently accepted into a PhD program. She has been working so hard to achieve this for quite some time and we are so incredibly proud of her. That being said, Aubrey will be stepping away from our bar to take the time to focus on furthering her education.

Tuesday, September 29th will be her last shift with us. You may still see her pop by, jump in to give us hands last minute or out and about in the community. In the meantime, come out this Tuesday to wish her well and congratulate her on her major accomplishment of being accepted as a PhD student.

We love you so much, Aubrey! We can’t wait to see what you do and where this next level of education takes you 🤍

⚡️POW⚡️ Important PSA comin’ atcha!!

As of last night, we have sold our last in-house retail bottle of Barrel Reserve Gin! 🤯🤯 For those that don’t know, T & Darren make the BR1 *once* a year. Our gin needs to time to rest 😴 at over 170 proof in our bourbon, brandy and rum barrels that we acquire every summer. As we not-so-patiently wait for the gin to be pulled sometime in October, we still have a handful of bottles set aside behind the bar 😮‍💨😩

Whether you’re itching for that Bee’s Knees or, my personal favorite, a BR1 and Fever Tree Mediterranean G&T, now is the time to get it! For those in need of any retail bottles, we encourage you to seek it out at Market Basket, RSVP or Bow St. Beverage 🤩

In the meantime, stay tuned on an announcement for the BR1 release in October!🍁🧡

🌱✨PRESTO✨🌱 … just like magic

Bimini Overproof, Genepy, Basil-Lime Cordial, Basil Oil

Basically, our house gimlet and your nonni’s pesto loved each other very very much, came together and had a baby! 🥹👉👈

As we approach the end of September and ease into the cooler weather, we’ll be letting go of our current menu. Not much time left to enjoy and savor one helluva** seasonal menu 😋😋😋

** Helluva Good Dip, please don’t come at me

🌲NORTH WOODS LAW🌲

Every June, our team has the opportunity to pick fresh spruce tips to incorporate into this fan favorite, a Maine riff on a Last Word. Our original gin is working overtime with Luxardo Maraschino, lime and the spruce tips that we’ve blended down 😵‍💫😵‍💫

Rose is on tonight. Try it OG or try it her way, with Coco Lopez for a more summery, creamy take! 🥥🌴

THIS WEEKEND! Our School Supply Drive is accepting donations to support York County’s Head Start Program! 🎉🥳📚✏️

We’ve whipped up (literally) a few coffee based drinks with 🩷Time & Tide’s🩷 cold brew concentrate! Specials are up for the weekend to help with those back to school jitters 😬😬☕️

🤓Teacher’s Pet🤓 is nagging amount of our original and barrel reserve gin with the cold brew concentrate, a blend of amaros and orange bitters

📜Honor Roll📜 is a non-alcoholic with a blackberry shrub, demerara sugar, cold brew and aztec chocolate bitters with a salted coconut-vanilla foam to top it off!

Not showing : Our take on an espresso and tonic 📝Extra Credit📝 using our overproof gin, coffee brandy, dry curaçao and tonic syrup with an effervescence (6th grade word) of soda!

Swing by for a beverage or just pop through to make a donation! Many thanks to Time & Tide’s support and so much love and appreciation for the Head Start Program!

🌴 The Saturn 🌴

I don’t know about y’all, but this weather is giving me whiplash. With those warm, tropical breezes (more like gusts that almost launched me clean off the sidewalk) of wind today, I was, naturally, feeling a tropical beverage 💁‍♀️💁‍♀️

Our Saturn is, traditionally, being done with our Bimini Gin OG … but we just bottled the Coconut, so you deserve to treat yourself and fatten up that drink. Accompanying our gin, we’re using passion fruit, orgeat, falernum tincture and lemon juice 🍹💦🥵

‼️A reminder, we will be collecting school supply donations for York County’s Head Start program all weekend. Be sure to check our pinned post to see what is in need to help them have a successful school year!
