🚑 BIG SPRING FIRE DEPARTMENT RESUMES EMS OPERATIONS

Today marks an exciting milestone for the Big Spring Fire Department and the communities we serve as Big Spring Fire officially resumes responsibility for Emergency Medical Services (EMS) operations serving Big Spring and Howard County.

Our personnel are excited to once again take on this important responsibility and provide emergency medical care to the citizens of Big Spring and Howard County.

This transition represents a renewed commitment to providing dependable, professional, and compassionate emergency services to our community. Our team has worked diligently to prepare for this day, and we are proud to bring EMS operations back under the Big Spring Fire Department.

Big Spring Fire Department Chief Jay Holt and the entire BSFD team are grateful for the opportunity to serve our community in this expanded capacity.

We look forward to continuing to build upon the trust our citizens place in us every day and to providing the highest level of emergency response and patient care possible.

Big things are happening with Big Spring Fire Department these next few weeks, this is one of them!

The Big Spring Fire Department is proud to announce the arrival of a new Oshkosh Striker 4500 Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) vehicle, significantly expanding the department’s specialized emergency response capabilities and providing dedicated ARFF protection for the Big Spring Airpark.

The Oshkosh Striker 4500 is purpose-built for aircraft emergencies and provides firefighters with specialized capabilities to respond to aircraft incidents, fuel fires and other emergencies associated with airport operations. The apparatus provides high-volume firefighting capability, a dedicated foam system and specialized ARFF equipment designed to rapidly deliver fire suppression agents where they are needed.

The addition of the Striker 4500 represents an important investment in the safety and future of the Big Spring Airpark. Dedicated ARFF protection strengthens the Airpark’s ability to support existing aviation operations while also providing an important asset in efforts to attract new industrial, aviation and commercial companies to Big Spring.

“Big Spring Fire Department is proud to expand our services and provide Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting protection to the Big Spring Airpark,” said Big Spring Fire Chief Jay Holt. “This apparatus gives our department specialized equipment and capabilities to better protect the airport, the businesses that operate there, and our community. It also represents an investment in the future of the Airpark and Big Spring.”

“Projects like this don’t happen without cooperation and a shared vision for the future,” Chief Holt said. “We want to specifically thank Airpark Director Mike Feeley, our City Council and City staff for recognizing the importance of this capability and working to make it a reality. Their commitment to the Airpark, public safety and the future of Big Spring is greatly appreciated.”

The Striker 4500 is more than an additional fire apparatus. It represents an investment in aviation safety, economic development, public safety and the continued growth of the Big Spring Airpark.

As Big Spring continues to pursue new opportunities for industrial and aviation development, the Big Spring Fire Department is proud to provide the emergency-response infrastructure necessary to support that growth.

The Big Spring Fire Department looks forward to putting this new resource to work and continuing to serve the citizens, businesses, visitors and aviation community of Big Spring.

25 years later, many of us know exactly where we were, what we were doing, and that feeling we had as we watched the planes fly right into the towers. We watched as FDNY, NYPD, PAPD, and EMTs ran towards those buildings to save as many lives as possible. Almost 3000 lost their lives that day, from these attacks on our nation. 343 of those were Fireman.
Where were you that day 25 years ago?

Praying for our brothers over in Odessa. We know it been an unbearable year for your Dept. You have our full support during this time.

One of our local Firefighters Reuben Campos has had an unforeseen medical surgery come up and is needing help cover the cost of the surgery. He and his fiancé Grace were affected last year in the floods in San Angelo and still recovering from all the damage done to their house. He is a local boy from right here in Howard county and one heck of a guy!
