This August, we're recognizing a leader whose fingerprint is on protection and automation schemes used by utilities across the country.

Greg Hataway started his career in system protection at a utility in Alabama, eventually rebuilding an entire technical services group from two people into a full team handling relay settings, protection and control design, and power quality work across a service territory that covered most of the state. That early experience, doing a little of everything, gave him a breadth most engineers who specialize early never get.

From there, Greg spent years as an application engineer, developing custom automation schemes for utilities across the Southeast and beyond, and building a reputation as someone utilities could call when a problem didn't have an obvious answer. He's grown engineering teams from scratch more than once, and the people who've worked for him tend to keep working for him, wherever he goes next.

Today, Greg leads Protection and Automation Engineering at Gridco, building an integrated capability that covers design, protection coordination, programming, testing, and commissioning under one roof. It's the kind of end-to-end technical depth that's hard to find, and even harder to build.

If you've talked protection schemes with Greg, you know the relationship doesn't end when the project does. That's the standard he holds his team to, and it's exactly why utility partners keep coming back to him with their toughest problems.

Testing and commissioning capabilities keep expanding.

Infrared inspection, meter testing, and system audits are now part of what our teams bring to the table. Certified thermographers. Trained meter technicians. Field crews who know what the results actually mean, not just how to collect the data.

As Gridco keeps growing, having someone who leads with listening before policy matters more every day. Jessica's approach, understanding the people behind the work before trying to fix the process, is exactly what this moment calls for.

To close out July, we want to introduce someone who has built one of the most technically demanding divisions in our company, and done it with a standard that's visible the moment you walk onto one of her job sites.

Whitney White came to Gridco with 15 years of utility experience, including a role overseeing substation construction statewide, leading field managers, inspectors, and contract crews across an entire state footprint. Among her career highlights is being part of the first wave of professionals in the nation to build data center substations, a distinction that speaks to both her technical range and her ability to lead through complexity.

Her team currently runs crews in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and Mississippi, with Virginia on the horizon. The work spans below-grade infrastructure through steel er****on, major equipment installation, switchboard wiring, and commissioning. Whitney captures it well: "the work of substation construction is a true craft. It is grid critical, safety sensitive, highly detailed, and labor-intensive work. It is one of the unique fields where your team needs to think like an engineer, construct with surgeon-like precision, have military-style adaptability to project changes, all while executing in extreme weather conditions with a team-focused mentality. It is truly a privilege to work with the most amazing team, I am proud of all we have accomplished and excited about our future!"

Gridco's substation operations hold third-party certifications to perform energized work inside substations, making us the only contractor currently certified to do that work. Continual training is one of Whitney's core foundations, and on-the-job modules deployed across her crews reflect both her leadership philosophy and Gridco's commitment to safety, quality, and excellence.

What she has built so far is just the beginning, and we're glad she's here!

This month, we're recognizing a leader whose experience and impact across the utility industry span a territory as broad as the one he serves.

Jonathan Rogers has spent nearly 20 years building his career in the utility world, working across both operations and engineering roles in urban and rural environments. That combination gives him a perspective that's rare, from the field level to the planning side of the business, across distribution, transmission, and substation. He's one of the most well-rounded utility professionals in the industry.
Today, Jonathan serves as Director of Operations, leading storm contract efforts, overseeing RFP opportunities, and building new partnerships with utility partners across the Southeast and beyond. He'll tell you every storm deployment is an audition, show up, communicate clearly, execute with excellence, and earn the next opportunity through performance.

He also leads Gridco's Fiber and Lighting business units, managing complex projects from make-ready overhead preparation through installation and final coordination. The scope of that work demands exactly the kind of cross-disciplinary experience Jonathan brings to it.

If you've followed our conference presence this summer, you've likely seen Jonathan in the room. From EUCI to SEE to ECA to TMEPA, he continues to demonstrate what it means to be present and engaged in this industry.

The relationships he builds don't begin and end at a conference table. They carry through every project, every crew, and every utility partner we work alongside.

Fiber deployment isn't just a telecom job anymore. And the crews making it happen on the utility side aren't your typical fiber installers.
