The season of the second harvest. 🌾

For our ancestors, this was a time to look at what the land had provided and give thanks—because this harvest carried them through the winter ahead.

🍎 Georgia Apple Festival: This Small Mountain Town Becomes the Apple Capital of the South and Draws More Than 55,000 Visitors Over Two Huge Fall Weekends

Every October, Ellijay, Georgia trades its quiet mountain-town pace for one of the biggest fall celebrations in North Georgia.

The 55th annual Georgia Apple Festival returns on October 10–11 and October 17–18, 2026, filling the Ellijay Lions Club Fairgrounds with more than 250 vendors, live entertainment, regional crafts, and enough apple treats to justify the road trip all by themselves.

Ellijay is known as the “Apple Capital of Georgia,” and the festival celebrates the end of the local harvest season with a classic Appalachian feel. Expect crisp mountain air, rows of white vendor tents, bluegrass and country music, woodworkers, potters, blacksmithing demonstrations, and families carrying bags of handmade goods through the fairgrounds.

🍎 The food is a major reason to go.

Look for hot apple fritters, fried apple pies, apple dumplings with ice cream, apple cider doughnuts, and fresh cider, along with barbecue, Cajun dishes, turkey sandwiches, and other Southern festival favorites.

The artisan market is another highlight, with booths selling handmade jewelry, woodwork, iron décor, pottery, artwork, and mountain crafts. Depending on the weekend, visitors can also catch classic cars, children’s activities, and special festival events.

On the opening Saturday, downtown Ellijay comes alive with the Georgia Apple Festival Parade at 10:00 AM, along with the annual 5K and 1-mile race.

And there’s a bonus.

The Apple Arts Festival runs downtown during the same festival weekends. It is free to enter and pet-friendly, making it a great escape if you want a slower-paced alternative to the main fairgrounds.

💡 Best strategy: arrive by 8:30 AM. Traffic into Ellijay can get rough once the festival crowd builds, and remote shuttle parking is often easier than fighting for a spot near the fairgrounds.

Bring some cash too. Many smaller food and craft vendors may prefer or require it.

And if your real goal is simply bringing home a trunk full of apples, cider, doughnuts, and fried pies, stop at nearby growers like B.J. Reece Orchards or Red Apple Barn before leaving town.

I’m sorry to say that this will be our last season of attending the fall festivals!!
It’s bitter sweet for sure but I’m looking forward to retirement and making some bespoke pieces for longtime guests.
But I so very much look forward to seeing everyone again one last time this fall season for both weekends at the Georgia Apple Festival in Ellijay GA in October!
