Why it is important to verify the license of any tradesman you hire. (Plumbers, electricians & HVAC techs)

1. Potential lack of experience .

2. If your home is damaged due to thier work, you can be denied by your insurance provider for hiring an unlicensed (or under licensed) tradesman.

3. If they are hurt on your property, you could be denied coverage from you insurance provider if they seek damages.

4. An unlicensed (or under licensed) tradesman is not allowed by law to enter into any contract either written, verbal or otherwise to accept payment for any work performed that falls under the description of the trade.

5. Licensed professionals invested a great deal of time, money and effort to follow state laws that are designed to protect the public from damage caused by inadequate work.

6. (For the tradesman) unlicensed (or under licensed) tradesman are banned by law from entering into any contracts either written, verbal or otherwise to trade work for financial compensation and since it is unlawful for unlicensed or under licensed persons to own or operate a business, If a customer decides they dont want to pay you, there is no legal recourse to collect.

In the state of Georgia, the minimum license requirement to own or operate a business, sell their trade skill for compensation or even perform the work unsupervised, is a Restricted (class 1) Masters license or Unrestricted (class 2) Masters license.
Journeyman licensed tradesman can only perform work when under the direct supervision of a Master plumber, electrician or HVAC technician.
Protect yourself and your investment. Even if advertising "licensed " be sure they are fully licensed and therefore qualified and legally allowed to perform the work you are paying them for.
