Never played before? I’ll walk you through everything you need to get started, including the tiles, dealing, the Charleston, reading the NMJL card, choosing a hand, calling tiles and basic strategy.

One of the hardest parts of learning mahjong? Realizing just how many different ways you can play a single line. 🀄️
Teaching my students to recognize all of the possibilities within a hand is one of the biggest skills we work on. And when I tell people just how many options there are for Quints, Line 3… jaws usually drop. 🤯
The card gives you the framework, but learning to see ALL the possibilities is where your game really starts to level up.
Did you know there were this many options hiding in just ONE line on the card? 👀

Sometimes I think of a mat + tile pairing and genuinely cannot function until I see it on my table. 😂
