Creative Current
Mindful Art Experiences Cultivating creativity and connection in the Bluffton/HHI area šØ Hi I am Jess Hooper founder of Creative Current.
I have a passion for helping children make space for peace in their busy little lives through the exploration of art, music and yoga. I have been teaching group art lessons in private studios as well as individual lessons since 2005. I have a Bachelors degree in Fine art with a concentration in Painting and a 200 hour Yoga Teacher Leadership Certification. I am a singer, songwriter and acoustic guitar player. It is my purpose to guide children to quiet the mind, experience creative flow and get swept away by Creative Current.

There was a time when I couldnāt imagine stepping away from Creative Current.
It was born during one of the hardest seasons of my life. I was navigating a major move, raising two young daughters without a local support system, anticipating the loss of my mom, and eventually grieving her death. Creative Current wasnāt just a businessāit was part of my own healing.
I thought my next chapter was supposed to be turning that healing into my full-time career.
Instead, somewhere along the way, I stopped doing the very things that made me feel alive.
I painted less.
I sang less.
I stopped picking up my guitar.
I spent more time trying to build a business than actually living the life that inspired it.
The hardest part wasnāt teaching or coaching.
It was feeling like I always had to market. Always had to create content. Always had to be āon.ā That gave me major ick. Like⦠major ick. I yearn for a private life. Where if people want to know how I am or what Iām up toā¦. They reach out. Not scroll.
For me, constantly asking, How do I turn this into a business? slowly replaced the joy of simply creating.
A few months ago, I made the decision to set Creative Current down.
I expected grief. Regret. Sadness.
Instead, I felt relief. Joy. Hope.
I still get to help people every day. I still teach. I still solve problems. I still use everything Creative Current taught me about empathy, communication, and guiding people through difficult moments.
But when I close my laptop, I close it.
And something unexpected happened.
Iāve started making music again.
I pick up my guitar because I want to. I sing because it fills me up. I share those moments because Iām proud of themānot because Iām hoping theyāll become clients.
Creative Current carried me through a season when I desperately needed it. It shaped who I am, and Iāll always be grateful for that.
Maybe one day it returns in a different form. Maybe it doesnāt.
For now, Iāve realized something I wish someone had told me years ago:
The internet is full of people telling you to quit your job and turn your passion into your profession.
For some people, thatās exactly the right path.
For others, itās a trap.
Sometimes the healthiest thing you can do is let your work support your life instead of asking your life to support your work.
And sometimesā¦
Some things are allowed to remain yours.
To every person who came to a workshop, painted beside me, practiced yoga, meditated, trusted me with your story, or simply followed along from afarāthank you.
You helped shape this chapter of my life more than youāll ever know.
As I quietly close the doors to Creative Current, Iām not doing it with disappointment.
Iām doing it with deep gratitude.
Thank you for walking this journey with me.
All my love,
Jess šāļø
A little Creative Current update. š
Over the past few years, Creative Current has worn a lot of hats.
There were workshops, coaching sessions, yoga classes, meditation offerings, creative circles, collaborations, special events, approximately 37 offerings, at least 112 spreadsheets, and an embarrassing number conversations with ChatGPT trying to figure out how to make it all work.
Some of it worked.
Some of it definitely did not. š
What Iāve realized is that while I love creating meaningful experiences for people, I donāt particularly love everything that comes with running a business.
Specifically the part where youāre supposed to consistently market yourself, create content, sell things, explain what you do, and somehow stay visible on social media forever.
As it turns out, my dream was never to become a full-time marketer.
Who knew?
So as I step into a new full-time career chapter, Creative Current is getting smaller.
Much smaller.
For now, Iām stepping away from coaching, classes, programs, and trying to do all the things.
Instead, Iāll be focusing on occasional creative gatheringsāthe part of Creative Current that still feels joyful, meaningful, and energizing.
Honestly, this feels less like giving something up and more like giving myself permission to stop carrying things that no longer fit.
To everyone who attended a class, trusted me with a piece of your story, created something messy and beautiful, sat in a circle, cried, laughed, breathed, painted, journaled, or simply cheered me on from afarāthank you.
Creative Current isnāt going away.
Sheās just becoming a lot more selective with her energy.
Stay tuned for the next creative gathering. šØāØ

Thereās something about tiny pieces of paper that makes everything feel lighter.
Lately, my favorite nights look like thisā
a handful of 2āx3ā watercolor scraps,
a table full of color,
and my girls beside me, creating just to create.
The first few?
A little stiff. A little āam I doing this right?ā
Very much in my head.
But then something shifts.
The lines loosen.
The colors get bolder.
The rules quietly leave the room.
And suddenly itās not about making something goodā
itās about following curiosityā¦
seeing what happens ifā¦
letting it be messy, playful, a little unexpected.
And honestly?
Those are always my favorite ones.
Not the perfect ones.
The free ones.
If youāve been feeling stuck,
try making a lot of something small.
No pressure, no masterpieceājust momentum.
Sometimes the magic isnāt in the first tryā¦
itās in giving yourself permission to keep going. āØ

Not everything we feel needs to be fixed.
Some of it just wants to be seen.
This weeks creative check-in, weāre doing something a little differentā
weāre meeting the emotions that have been taking up space.
Not analyzing them.
Not judging them.
Just⦠drawing them.
Turns out when you give your stress a face,
itās a little less scary.
(and sometimes a little ridiculous)
No art skills needed.
Just show up.
