A Backpack filled with Rocks ....
The way I personally describe grief is this:
Imagine someone, one day, handling you a backpack
filled with rocks and telling you that you have to wear it
for the rest of your life.
Initially, of course, you’d deny it, refuse to accept it -
but suddenly, it’s there.
The backpack is on your back.
And you can’t take it off.
You get upset, you’re angry, you try as you might to pull
it off. You can’t.
You can’t fit into the same spaces you used to be able to;
it’s heavy, cumbersome and is present everywhere you go.
You have to negotiate the world differently.
And people start to treat you differently. Some make more
space for you, are empathetic.
Others are awkward and
the space widens between you.
They don’t always know
what to say; they’ve never had to carry a backpack of
rocks, after all.

My Garden of Grief

We just passed the 7 year mark and this quote reminded me of the people who still say her name. It is a beautiful gift. Grieving parents long to talk about their children.

Day 2500...💔

This is total heartbreak 💔! #
When people stop saying my child’s name, it hurts in a way that is hard to explain. Some people may avoid their name because they do not want to make me sad, but the truth is, I am already missing them. I already know they are gone. Saying their name does not remind me of the loss. It reminds me that they lived, that they mattered, and that their love is still part of this world. A grieving mother is not trying to forget her child. She is trying to survive with a love that still needs somewhere to go. Sometimes hearing their name is not painful because it brings them back up. It is comforting because it lets me know someone else remembers too.
Do you wish people said your child’s name more?

Say Their Name Saturday 🤍
For many families, friends and loved ones, the hardest part isn’t just the loss, it’s what comes after. The silence. The way a name slowly disappears from conversations, as if saying it might hurt too much, or make others uncomfortable.
But for those living with grief, not hearing their loved one’s name can hurt more.
Their name matters. It always will.
Saying their name acknowledges that they were here, that they were loved, and that they are still part of someone’s life. It allows space for grief to be seen, instead of quietly carried.
Today, we invite you to share your loved one’s name in the comments.
Share their name.
Because they deserve to be remembered. Always.
