vSummer is coming to an end and that can only mean one thing: It's Back-To-School time. For some children, this transition can be difficult and stressful. Here are 5 tips to help ease the transition:
1. Start the Routine Early: Begin adjusting bedtimes, wake-up times, and meal schedules one to two weeks before school starts. Predictable routines help children of all abilities feel more secure and prepared.
2. Talk Through the Day Ahead: Review what a typical school day will look like, including drop-off, classes, lunch, and pick-up. For children who benefit from extra support, consider using a visual schedule or social story.
3. Practice Independence: Encourage children to practice age-appropriate tasks such as packing their backpack, choosing clothes, opening lunch containers, or organizing school supplies. Small successes build confidence.
4. Acknowledge Feelings: It's normal for children to feel excited, nervous, or uncertain about a new school year. Create space for them to share their feelings and reassure them that it's okay to ask for help when needed.
5. Focus on Strengths, Not Just Challenges: Remind your child of what they do well, whether it's making friends, being creative, solving problems, or showing kindness. Celebrating strengths helps build resilience and confidence for the year ahead.
Bonus Tip: If your child receives special services or accommodations, connect with teachers, therapists, or support staff early to establish a strong partnership before the school year begins.

Staff members from Goldman Sachs recently volunteered at the Jacobson Family Food Pantry as part of their ongoing annual tradition of community service with Ruth & Norman Rales Jewish Family Services (JFS).
During their visit, the volunteers sorted and packed food bags, assisted with direct food deliveries to pantry clients, and made a financial donation to support JFS programs.
Community support and volunteer partnerships are vital to keeping our pantry operations running smoothly and ensuring local families receive the assistance they need.
